I think it has a bonus +5 to the scaling. I'm not sure if that is a flat rate +5, or if it just boosts the scaled mean by 5 (which means the +5 will diminish near the upper and lower ends).

Someone will provide a link, but I think it's in the document called the ABCs of scaling on VTAC.edu.au

Okay, here's the link: http://www.vtac.edu.au/pdf/publications/abcofscaling.pdf

Search: "Languages Other Than English (LOTEs)" with Ctrl+F (Find function)

It has a paragraph talking about it. I just realised it can't be a flat rate +5, because that means all LOTEs would scale their 50s to 55, which isn't true. What happens is that they calculate the natural scaled mean (the way they normally do it), then they add 5 to that scaled mean, and then do things as normal to get the scaling distribution.

Basically, it means those at raw scores of 30 get a +5 boost to their scaling, and as you move out from 30, that scaling diminishes (like normally).

Here is where it states there is a +5 bonus to scaling: http://www.vtac.edu.au/pdf/publications/enterbook.pdf
Search: "LOTE" again, or look at page 3.

Aww ok thanks Coblin. So my godsister got a 38 on greek and that has a normal scaling of about 2 for 35 or 40 ( ie. goes to 37 and 42 respectively) so does that mean here 38 will go up more than just to 40?

I looked at the scaling report, and I see that's where you got your data from. Unfortunately, I am certain that the scaling report already takes into account the added boost to the LOTEs. If it were not for the boost, her scores would have most likely scaled down. :( Sorry, but 35 to 37, and 40 to 42 is going to be the final score (plus or minus 0.5, due to rounding).

Oh na I was just wondering. I wasn't sure how it works. Im estatic for her. A 40 after scaling is a MAD score. I'm so happy for her =)

It could be possible for small subjects, they might just have a different system. I'm not sure if LOTE Greek is a small subject though.
