So if we cook our own food and buy from Aldi are we going to come up roughly even with what we would have paid for a catered hall? I'm trying to make sense of this all.

I really couldn't say. But, because they've just opened up Warrambul they have way more rooms than last year, so I think that it's likely you'd get it.

The rent for Unilodge is lower than even the self-catered dorms if you share it with someone else. I'm thinking of moving into one of those after I get my bearings at the place.

Eriny, what can you tell me about the music rooms?

There are music rooms you can use, I believe are top floor of Kinloch (I think it's top floor anyway). Unfortunately you can only use them during office hours (10am-6pm). However, you realistically can practise in your room because the walls are concrete.

It depends on whether you get a studio or if you're sharing.

How much worse would it be if we got a studio? I've looked for the prices and how much we'd spend on top of rent is unclear - e.g. I don't know how much the average student spends on utilities/groceries.

How do you get by on $25 a week for groceries?

My boyfriend and I buy groceries together and it ends up costing us $100 a fortnight (roughly). That's only after you buy all the staples, like spices and flour and butter and tomato paste such. We eat fairly healthily, meat and vegetables and fruit and such, a lot of pasta and rice though, and a lot of cooking in bulk and freezing it to reheat later. There's a bulk supabarn store out near the airport which is slightly cheaper for most things. You definitely want to factor in more than $25 per week though, because you would still go out for dinner sometimes and sometimes things are more expensive than normal and sometimes you randomly feel like going out for ice-cream or baking some cupcakes.

I don't know the weekly rent off the top of my head, but it's that plus $25 for utilities plus whatever you spend on food. Plus $3 per load of washing (I tend to do washing once every 2-3 weeks, but I have a lot of clothes). Parking at UniLodge is also more expensive if you're bringing a car.

OH no!!!

Unilodge is more expensive IMO ($255 @ 52 weeks) and non-catered, Is there anyway to choose different accommodation (I want catered or cheaper accommodation if it is non-catered and a contract length of 40 weeks)

The only other option is realistically something off-campus :( Maybe in an apartment block or in a share house.

So there is no way I can get a room at one of the other colleges (ursula or one of the other catered)

I got a single studio for Warrumbul. Really hope that I can do something and get into catered accommodation.
