I remember reading about this just before offers came out. Very good idea, allows everyone to enjoy the community of a residence even if they don't live in one.
I believe Griffin Hall is only for non-residential students as said in the link below.

Yeah, it's just a place for students not on-campus to do all the on-campus events (sports and arts comps, social events, etc.) From what I gather, it was created by ex-ressies who miss residential life :P
