lol?
ppl, please, stop the fighting...
i registered in mind for a resourceful site where hopefully i can contribute a bit but mainly take advantage of other people's brilliance (hehe)

this site doesnt have a clear vision (if there is, then it's not clear enough or emphasized enough as i havent noticed), and people practically do as they please...
the most upsetting thing is that there seem to be a society that wish to be self-contained.. as an outsider, it's hard for me to contribute when the well-established community refer to each other, instead of the wide community, hence is why people read but rarely post

I have to agree with Costargh on some levels of his arguments, but i wont go into that, knowing many people will defend their positions, requesting for evidence of my belief, and fully knowing i cannot provide any because it's the tone hidden in the posts, a few quotes cannot represent the environment some of us are in.

as i understand, we span across several schools, and we're all intelligent people. We all have our prestige, some more than others, and that is the source of the problem. People in control should start to understand that a hierarchy of power is not the most desirable, this is not a super-organisation that needs the supervision and management of those who deem themselves responsible and sensible. VCE'ers come here for a sense of equality, an escape from teachers, a place to debate and settle on their own answers, not somewhere uni-go'ers shut down the often badly laid out strands of thought that sparks us to a higher level of understanding...

wow, that was a big rant

at the end of the day, i'd just like to point out

enwiabe, i am aware of your administrating status, but there is no need for the obvious sarcasm, costargh has said wat he wants to say, it's time to get on...

Vague and waffled on.

There is no "hierarchy of power" unless you choose to perceive it that way (how is that for higher level of understanding?). Intimidation by tone has to be obvious enough to be true intimidation, and if you are just perceiving the tone to be intimidating, then that power is just part of your perception, and you have created your own hierarchy.

Agreed, that's a quality post right there - an objective, mature tone. Obsolete Chaos has voiced his valid opinion, which I share. Something needs to change to correct the obvious disharmony here. May I just say that someone who puts their own ego aside will prevail as the better man and the better person. There is no use in winning an argument if you lose so much more in the process.

This comment is supporting brendan, because everyone who is complaining about him seems to hate the way he identifies logical fallacies to debunk arguments. People are letting their ego get in the way, rather than just ignoring it and moving on. However, Obsolete Chaos wants to be in a place "not somewhere uni-go'ers shut down" VCEers, implying he wants brendan out (and me).

This comment is supporting a better system, not any person in particular. There is surely fallacy in manipulating my opinions to the point where they are no longer my own. I've made it long clear that I admire both you and brendan, but don't try and do that to me.

Haha, the fallacy is called a "straw-man."

I have done that unintentionally, and I am sorry. Many people make this mistake. When brendan links you to the "straw-man" logical fallacy, people just get pissed off. Right here, I have just demonstrated how you can let ego slide, and accept your mistake. Instead of wallowing over this mistake, you can launch a new counter-argument from a new direction.

This might end up being the most rigorous training in structuring of arguments you'll ("you" in general) ever face :)

Example of a person without an egotistic approach  to an argument

thank you coblin for the mature response

my implication of "not somewhere uni-go'ers shut down" VCEers was meant as in "uni-go'ers please do not directly criticize our argument/point, we acknowledge that you are more experienced and more knowledgeable in areas we have not studied (or studied in details) and have insights that we dont yet understand, but there are always better ways to word a response that points out where we are wrong in a positive tone"
yes, that does sound too personal an attack at brendan, i apologize for not able to find better wording for that statement, but work is kicking my head in...

I really appreciate the effort mods and uni-go'ers put in to provide us VCE'ers with resources, and i realise that in the coming year this site will be a valuable resource for me. I was merely pointing out that a tense environment is not the most desirable for a forum such as this.

that is all, and i hope we are all over this dispute and get on with what this forum is made for again....

and btw making arguments here is harder than my philosophy class?!!! sigh LOL
