Stupid phpBB...
Quote

Signature:
This is a block of text that can be added to posts you make. There is a 255 character limit

Right, so that means I can use a signature up to 255 characters long? (this is really tiny in comparison to most forums... Can an admin here increase this to ~600? :D).

Well, I try this signature:
Code: [Select]
Subjects:
2005: Cisco CCNA
2006: Info Systems
2007: Specialist, Methods, Physics, English, Chem
Wishing for ENTER of ~87, expecting something lower :(
I'm not smart, I'm just me! :D

[b]Estimate your ENTER! Visit http://entercalc.us.to/ (in BETA)[/b]

Which is 250 characters (including line breaks), but phpBB says:
Quote
Your signature is too long.

250 < 255!!
Grrr... I hate you too, phpBB!   :evil:  :x

Well, not 600 characters of plain writing, but 600 characters including BBCodes. So like a few URLs, some bold text, some different colours, etc.
I used this signature at another forum... It's 499 characters long:
Code: [Select]

[table][tr][td][u]My sites:[/u]
?[url=http://dansoftaustralia.net/]DanSoft Australia[/url]?
?[url=http://www.daniel15.com/]Daniel15's Site[/url]?
?[url=http://www.dynamic-sig.com/]Dynamic-Sig.com[/url]?
?[url=http://zurl.ws]zURL.ws - Free URL shortening service[/url]?
[url=http://www.daniel15.net/]more...[/url][/td]
[td]? ?? [/td]
[td][url=http://www.last.fm/user/daniel_1515/?chartstyle=basicrt10] [img]http://imagegen.last.fm/basicrt10/recenttracks/daniel_1515.gif[/img] [/url][/td][/tr][/table]

Which has my website URLs neatly aligned in one column, and my last.fm recently played songs in another column (too bad phpBB doesn't have a BBCode :P)
A lot of forums don't have a character limit, but instead say that the signature can only be 5 lines of text or less, which IMO is a better restriction than a character limit

And besides, I could type up all the text (ie. more than 255 characters) in Photoshop or GIMP, save it as an image, and then just use the image in my signature. Easy way around the character limit :P

Do you guys think my signature is too long? Should I chop some off?

nah its fine im used to it now anyway lol, dont chop any of it off

well daniel if you've already got a way of getting around the problem then voila do that. but a signature with that many links would make me want to scratch my eyes out :) but thats ok, just my personal dislike for long signatures. if everyone has massive signatures it gets effing annyoing

What the fuck? What are you talking about? I'm going to start deleting posts from you that seem to have no meaning, and just add to your post count.

So is the maximum signature capability about 600 words. Besides, signatures that are too long get so annoying. (I do not even have a signature right now)
