This is a quite harsh ad hominem attack on Australians.

It alleges we are racists, and expects to use this as an excuse for Japan's whaling. Grow up.

"Aboriginals and Asians are still treated as second class citizens." Aboriginals, maybe, but Asians? Piss off, this is video is just trying to incite a xenophobic war between Asians and Australians. Don't buy it. They used a quote from Edmund Barton, a century ago, to show the racism of Australia... today. That was one hundred years ago, our attitudes are different now.

I find it highly hypocritical that it attacks us for eating kangaroos, and portrays us as similarly evil animal killers, but then makes the double standard and shows a happy person eating a whale. It actually claimed "eating whale meat is not barbaric" after a smear campaign on our record of kangaroo treatment. What about the scenes of bloodied whales being shored up into boats? Fair reporting please.

I commented on the video as following:
"Excuse me, whoever made this video is the xenophobic one. Don't generalise Australians please."

Others have commented, also highlighting Japan's record on the culling of their own wild dogs. This is an unfair video that is nothing more than a smear campaign. The only valid argument they made was that they believed whaling was sustainable, although that was not validated by any sources.

EDIT: I don't have a view on whaling (and fixed some grammatical errors).

damn straight. at my school of about 2000 students only about 100-150 are 'white' australians. how can such a culturally diverse country be racist? australia may have had some racist moments such as cronulla and a retarded government that doesnt know how to say sorry to the aboriginals but its not like we're proud of it

Yeah, it is absurd. Some Australians are racist, but not the majority. If someone is against whaling, it's not because they're racist, it's because whaling is terrible (the whales pretty much just die in pain). I'm against whaling, but I like Japan.

That movie started off with some valid arguments - that the best way to stop all this bickering is to all go vegetarian (not happening, I know) and that whaling can be sustainable. After that it became an ad hominem mudfight.

What really ticked me off was the juxtaposition of 'barbaric Aussies' eating kangaroos and 'happy Japanese' eating whales. Complete with change in music.

What's the difference, really?

I previously wasn't aware that the culling of dingoes was such a contentious issue in Australia. Is it something which has come up recently?
Or more likely, is it merely something that this video is blowing out of proportion.

actually they are technically classified as 'vulnerable' by the goverment but theyre not really a protected species because they weren't being killed off by humans (much). their numbers were declining because they were cross-breeding with wild dogs

That said, my point was that they were trying to load the word 'vulnerable' which, even in the context of the ICUN, only means that a species is only at risk of endangerment...it's not going to get FUBAR'ed anytime soon. But the clip suggests that their essentially near extinction, when juxtaposed with the topic of whales which have been considered endangered for quite some time (even though this is true for only certain species).

It also tries to suggest that killing kangaroos by bashing them against a ute, then stomping on their young joeys, is standard practice in australia. What a ridiculous video
