Has anyone ever had one of these paypal accounts before???

Is it safe?

I'm considering selling on ebay and would like to sign up for one...

What are the fees like for having one of these?

Having an account costs nothing.

Fees aren't great, I received a Payment of $US325 to my (Premier type) account, of which Paypal took $US11, but uh, it depends on the type of credit and account types.
Depositing into banks and currency conversions do not have fees though.

As for eBay, have a look at http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=925049. Basically they are money-grubbing, and if you can just communicate your bank details to the buyer directly it ends up being cheaper for everybody.

If the buyer opens a complaint against you after payment has occurred, good luck getting your money back. They will (irrecoverably) take any and all of your account balance if they so please.

I use paypal on occasion for ebaying purposes, and I haven't found any problems with it. I think it you're a seller it's good to have as many payment options as possible, so then people are more likely to buy your stuff. I've decided not to bid on a few items because payment options were incompatible with the payment options I have available.

PayPal is absolutely a much safer option to do your eBaying. As reg said, communicating payment details directly with the seller/buyer is cheaper, but you're up a creek without a paddle if they turn out to be less than 110% honest. Under PayPal, it is laughably easy to get your money back. I've had a smidgen under AUD$5,000 pass through my PayPal account and never once had an issue. :)

My work has hundreds of paypal payments come through each year, and we've never had a problem. Sure the cut they take is a bit expensive, but its worth it for convenience to the buyer and the seller, imo

and fees. Fees are charged to the seller not the buyer, that's where direct deposit works better.
