Does this show go too far?

There's this game show in the US called "The Moment Of Truth".

Basically, contestants are hooked up to a lie detector and are asked a series of personal questions such as
"Did you marry the wrong man?" The truth is rewarded with cash, a lie means you lose it all. Contestants answer in front of family and friends.

Here's part of one episode:

Is it going too far? Or is it justified because contestants choose to go on the show? Should it be taken off air?

I don't know. It's unethical firstly, because people have a right to privacy. Also, a lie detector isn't really an accurate device and I believe it's possible to manipulate the questions in order to get people to respond to them as they would if they were lying, or to word questions in such a way that the answerer doesn't really know if they're lying or telling the truth (like, if it's ambiguous or if they haven't formed an opinion on the subject).

But I suppose if the contestants are completely informed about all this then it's not too bad. Most reality shows are all about exploiting stupid people for money anyway (even in situations where only 1 person in 20 actually wins any money), I don't see how this is any different.

I think people would be pretty horrible people to win all that money, as to win that money they probably cheated on their wife while their wife was pregnant, or something stupid like that. Otherwise, the people are cowards who did bad things but don't want to admit it in front of their family and friends... or are less greedy.

I don't think any nice people would go on this show as it wouldn't make good entertainment.

They chose to go on such a show, so whether the show goes too far or not isn't really an issue.
Some snippets of what goes on in IRC:

Exactly. This doesn't mean I endorse the show, or enjoy it either. I stay away from the television, I just think that since they aren't being forced on the show, there's no problem.

OMG...I didn't want to watch but couldnt look away. Surely, if somone had such dark secrets as that woman, you wouldnt go on a show that exposes them. If a person with secrets such as that woman willingly goes on the show, it is not unethical, its just stupid of the person!
