yeah man, you're cut for science.

I'd think you might not even want to switch to biomed, i wanted to originally but now i don't see the point really. The entire first year of Biomed is "core" subjects (ie you must do them) and most of second year too. Science has none, but if you want to do post grad med you need pre reqs in 2nd year. I'm not sure about the biomed first year subjects, but I'd think they would be significantly different with respect to biology/chemistry etc to the science ones.

Yes, but you'll have to choose the correct subjects, and also you'll have to sit GAMSAT, go for an interview and maintain a high GPA.

So you don't necessarily have to try and transfer to biomed. It says in their booklet that science is also a preferred pathway to med. You also don't necessarily have to study at UniMelb to get into their grad program, I think.

This is correct. The selection process is "blind" to which course you came from. They can see scores etc. but apparently that's it. (I rang umelb to ask ... most of it's still in development so they couldn't tell me much anyway.)

At the course info day they said in first year science do: biology, chemistry and a quantitative subject (I assume maths/physics). This will allow for you to do the prereqs needed for melb med/etc - that is 2nd year or higher of physiology, anatomy and biochemistry.

After you get your offers, UMelb has the 'academic advice day' (click for 2009 full program .pdf). You will have an one-on-one talk with an advisor to pick your subjects to suit your goals.

The biomed guy at course info day also said that if you do similar subjects (science) to people doing biomed, you could be in the same lectures as them.

Oh and anything's possible if you put in effort.

I got 90.15 and wanted to do biomed at UoM..

But I think you have to get an average of 75 in all subjects.

science and biomed is basically the same thing... u have the same subjects... biochem and molecular bio, developmental bio, human pathology, immunology, microbiology, pharmacology, physiology... so eh if u can be stuffed transferring to biomed after 1st yr.. i think u have to start from 1st yr again...
