I wanna aerospace eng/science at monash, with enter 94 :(
« on: December 21, 2008, 04:34:34 pm »
Hey i got an ENTER of 94 in year 12 and i am hoping to go onto do engineering in uni.

The course i really want to do is aerospace engineering /science. Now unfortunately, last years clearly in enter was 97.95. I looked at the stats and found about 10% of offers made were still below this clearly in enter. So does that mean the enter might come down a bit since not as many people were able to make this cut off score. ??? Also, i completed spesh, physics and chem, hence using the middle band criteria, my aggregate goes up by 5 points, which wud push up my ENTER to 95-96 ( need confirmation).

Do you think i can get into this get course still?

Also, should i put this course as my first preference with the hope that i can still get in? or should i play the safer option and just put in engineering at melbourne (which needs 85) as first preference?

As if this is a place where people dont laugh at your ENTER.

ENTER does not determine how smart you are. so you can STFU now...thanks
also, PM ME if you have a problem. bring up a problem which CONCERNS ME only, not half of VN who also do the same action.
thanks

Dusty, i want the aerospace engineering more (espescially the one at monash with science) but i doubt i can get into that. Can I??

If i put that as my first pref and say engineering >>melbourne as my 2nd preference, can i still get into engineering at melbourne? Even though its my 2nd pref, incase i dont get into aerospace?

EDIT: or wud melbourne uni turn my back, if i dont get in to aerospace and wont let me in beccause i had them as 2nd preference. Still confused.  ???

Keep it as your first preference. You may or may not get in, although you may have an alright chance. If you don't get that preference, you'll definitely get your second preference at Melbourne with no risk involved.

1. I think honestly you won't get in.
With most courses offers are made below the clearly in, this is called the middle band (and seas and stuff). Its designed like that, people above the clearly in are just selected purely on their ENTER (and of course, meeting study score prereqs ie 25 in english). Clearly in etc varies according to supply and demand.

2. I don't understand how putting engineering as first pref would be a 'safer' option, or why the hell you would do it if its not the course you want to get into the most. This means you would have a 0% chance of being offered aero eng/sci =/

Yeh true i can apply for other aerospace courses as well, i dont mind do any other forms of engineering either if i dont get into aerospace.

But i still want to do aerospace/science at monash the most.

So says if i go something like.....

1) aerospace/science (monash)

2) aerospace RMIT (91, YEP MY SCORE IS OVER, but would having this as 2nd pref disadvantage me?)

3) engineering (just incase)

Should i go something like this?

Why would second preference disadvantage you? =/

I am not sure how the VTAC application still works. But a uni usually wants ppl to pick them as 1st pref, if i do 2nd pref they are going to give speccial preference to those ppl who picked it first wouldnt it?

When your first preference says no, you're considered for your second one and so on. There are no disadvantages in regards to where you place a course. Students = money for uni

Yeh, its a blind selection process, the university gives a list of their prefered applicants to VTAC who then allocate offers in accordance with preferences. The university only knows that you have made a application, they don't know the ranking of that preference

You could definitely get it, especially if you did really well in specialist, chemistry and physics.

I know somebody who got into veterinary science with an ENTER of under 90.

You reckon? Thanks for the reasurance.
