Droodles MAINLY left because VCE was over.

How'd you find that out? I never saw a reason for him leaving being posted...

I reckon there should be a limit to how many topics a member can make each day. For example, 2 topics can be created per day by each member. This is the technique used in many large forums (that I know of). When too many topics are made, less replies come both in quality and quantity.

The reasons for droodles Iv seen were very similar to "post-deterioration" imo (although I kinda deep down think he mainly left cause vce was over)

anyone who saw his "reasons for leavin" post before it got deleted knows what some of his issues were with the site.

Also notice that 1) it was 4 people out of (approaching) 5000... 2) 3 of whom have LONG since finished VCE (the target audience of this website)...

I honestly don't see your point. I think you're being quite paranoid about nothing. :-/

I like some of the random threads. It's about getting to know people you normally wouldn't in real life. And not everyone goes on IRC or even knows it exists.
I understand seeing the pages of unread threads when you go online everyday and getting bloody annoyed - seriously, I understand. But I also undertstand wanting to talk for once about non-VCE/syudy related things. When I went to school, all I would talk about was stuff to do with my subjects, and homework, etc. So it is nice to talk to some randoms about, e.g. your hair colour.
And it is also the holidays. The only people who should be talking about study are the '09ers. And uni students for next year should only be worrying about getting offers. That's the only discussion at the moment that should be happening about school/uni.

Edit:  Warning - while you were typing 6 new replies have been posted. You may wish to review your post. LOL.

I was just trying to identify a trend (which a lot of other people have noticed too).
Trends should be identified so that possible problems can be identifed and those problems rectified (if problems actually exists), rather that wait for the problems to grow into something less manageable.
Maybe Im just rather uncheery on Christmas and wanted this place to better than it currently is right now, I dont know.

Yeah, the VCE forum on BoS is completely dead. But even the HSC sections there, which get more traffic than we do here, aren't as good in my opinion. However they do have a much much larger collection of fora which are basically Sweet Nothings x 9000.
(I still go on BoS occasionally but mainly for the ANU forum.)
I concur. BoS is a bowl of shit, filled with many stereotypical, slightly racial, immature highschoolers.

You'll get responses like "omg u azns r so nerdy lol" or like I've quoted before, things along the lines of "You don't know shit about schoolies. You're asian so go back playing Dota"

Well maybe that's a bit too drastic; For example, if it were 3 threads a day, I post one thread in specialist maths, one in chemistry, one in physics and then I have to wait until the next day for another one. A bit too much.

That's odd.

Still, I think perhaps we should ask the members (or ex-members) themselves why they left, rather than hypothesise. Anyone in MSN contact?

Also, I daresay that caramel (at least) left for different reasons. In her profile it talked about how she was only still a member because she wanted to see how the class of '08 did.

Heh. I liked the alliteration.
And wtf is Dota?

And I don't like the idea of a thread posting maximum. That would be pretty shitty for the big contributors of this site. I just think the moderators should be more vigilant and more thorough in deleting posts that are spammy. And I think there should be rules for the Sweet Nothings Board, so we have less crap there - I do admit, there is quite a lot of crap going in there (particularly for a site that is aimed at VCE students and helping them study).

Random thought:
Maybe there should be a maximum in posting per day in a specific board. There are *some* people who post way too much per day. Perhaps a maximum in posting in the sweet nothing board.

That sounds like a reasonable idea. It won't effect educational posts and will reduce the spamming (hopefully)

SHUTUP ENWIABE

i like the way you can say pretty much anything you want on vn. its cool, unlike what's on bos. they restrict too much of what you say on there.
