Interesting.

Before I watched it, I was thinking it would probably just be the same chord progression, which can happen quite coincidentally. But with the melody the same, who knows...

One idea is that Coldplay's writer had the melody in the back of their mind somewhere, not knowing it already existed...

As a composer, I can tell you that this happens. A lot.

When you write melodies, you tend to write what sounds 'good'. Often, what sounds 'good' has been shaped from your wide listening of your favourite songs.

Here's another interesting one (but not plagarism, just one lazy, lazy band) - http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=t2wJDnyd-ow

Oh, I know that. This first example was just particularly striking. What instrument/s do you compose on, excal?

*did*

I haven't had much time to compose as of late, but I've done piano+vox, concert band and orchestra stuff.

Does anyone else hear the striking resemblance of 'clocks' by coldplay and the start of the potbelleez song 'are you with me'. I can't get over it but everyone just says i'm hearing things
