Even your main spinner, murali is outshined by the greatest spinner of all time, shane warne.

murali's got more test wickets. he wins.

Murali is a very good spinner. But quality is more important then quantity. Warne is simply a phenomena, he can turn a game around single handedly by trashing the best batting lineups in the world, whenever he wants.

warne consistently failed against india - and they're regarded as the best players of spin in the world. the teams warne had dominated were south africa and england and they fail against spin bowling.

but i do agree australia is better than sri lanka, even now.

Look, i dont wanna sound like an arrogant wanker, i still have a lot of respect for sri lanka given the fact that the country faces a lot of adversity and still manage to produce very talented players. Its just that kurrmuncher's tone was pissing me off.

I think this murali v warne debate is just childish. I shouldnt have gotten into that. I am sorry.
They are both top players who both are both valuable to their countries.

yeah, how many did he take against bangladesh and zimbabwe as opposed to england, south africa and india?

only about 170 out of the 766 he's got. he's probably going to beat warne even if you take out both of their wickets against zimbabwe and bangladesh.

i do disagree with you on this point, but i undertsand where your coming from. on a personal note, i reckon i could take a wicket against bangladesh and zimbabwe.

Ok, I'm sorry my tone pissed you off. Its just players like Ponting ( and I know you will disagree) really piss me off, especially his excuses for losing a match. Its probably only ponting that really makes me hate the Australian team. Other than that the other players are all fine.

EDIT: @ Osmoister: Bangaladesh are improving rapidly, if you saw the world cup last year, you'll see that they made the final eight. I reckon in 20- 25 years they should be high ranked team.

Oh yep spot on. Ponting is a wanker in terms of his attitude and behaviour, definitely. However he is still an excellent batsman in terms of his skills.

20-25 years......

You should know yourself that that's too long for a minnow to be a minnow. Sri Lanka won the World Cup in 1996 and that wasn't too long after they had come into test cricket, and when they had come in I think they had started winning tests straight away. Fact remains Bangla have only won one test in their entire history and that's against Zimbabwe anyway. But that's opening a whole new issue.

On the Murali vs. Warne, Murali has taken those wickets against the minnow sides, but then Warne had some things going on his side too. He had McGrath, the room to work with large totals in most cases, and he had the English batsmen playing 4-5 tests against him every couple of years. His average against India remains above 40 I think, and as we saw last summer, India's an important test for a spin bowler (I remember Hoggy vs. Tendulkar, wasn't much of a contest).

Finally, on the Sri Lankan batsmen, Sangakkara is awesome to watch and Jayawardene is pro as well. What's better is that they are both good sportsmen. Punter's batting has come into question against quality spin (he still has an average of 20-odd in India), but yea he's still an amazing batsman even if he needs to work on captaincy.

Only takes 8 balls this afternoon + tomorrow for South Africa to lose, and with those cracks just outside off...

Yeah, hope South Africa have learnt from their tour of England where they won the first two tests, lost the dead rubber, then lost the ODIs 4-0 pretty comprehensively: and that's against the same England ODI team that lost 5-0 against India just a few months later. If they have then should be more competitive cricket for the rest of the summer (NZ ODI team is okay actually and might give a new-look Australia a couple of decent challenges)
