A question about a laptop running too slow..

Ok so my parents bought an Asus laptop late last year, and after a few months it became really slow. I mean it takes like almost 5 minutes to load [if we're lucky]...Once it loads it runs fine, til when we need to turn it off, which takes another couple of minutes or so. I'm not exactly sure what model it is..I think it's the F5GL (or something similar to that). We run Vista on it (Could that be why?)

Any help would be appreciated, thanks

Specficiations?

You may be low on RAM, or Vista is consuming far too much resources.
