Yr 12 English students :
What homework were you given over the holidays to do?

Have you read all of your texts yet and watched any films ?

What else are you doing over the holidays before you start back to get ready for english?

Just curious, and need some motivation to get started  :-[ :)

I did mean just English work, but why not post all our holiday homework..

I finally finished the Kite Runner. But I'm not rereading it again in the holidays, I'll do that later on in the year.
Still have to read The Line and The Crucible.
And watch Look Both Ways again

make sure you're writing notes down after you're done with your texts. made the mistake of reading one during the summer holz and completely forgetting what it was about around june.

just curious, what sort of notes? is now the time to start writing down and remembering key quotes, or is it too early? or just notes like basically a summary of the text?

btw, congrats on the great enter :)

well the text i was talking about was the shark net and that was part of the 'whose reality' context. if i had my time again id probably make a quick summary (plot is not really that important for context) and then make notes on everything that shows different perceptions of reality (themes, quotes, events etc). after that you can work on developing your ideas...maybe even later on in the year or just as a continuing thing throughout the year. the point is that atleast you won't be wasting your time reading and finding that stuff again sometime during the middle of the year when you probably will have too much work to juggle.

same goes for your main text, although this should definitely be an ongoing thing from the moment you start your second read (first one being where you just understand the story ofcourse). when you're reading it the second time just make little side notes and mark down what you reckon are significant quotes so you can come back and work on them later on. also, make sure you're not trying to get everything out of the book during your second read, you'll always miss stuff. that's why everyone says you need to read it about 4-5 times atleast.

i have to say i did none of this, lulz, but like i said, if i had my time again this would probably be the way i'd go.

& thanks. hope that helps.

1) Read all texts (3)
2) Finished Hard Times and Enduring Love, haven't touched The Shark Net
3) Reading Hard Times again whilst further annotating the crap out of it and finishing a bunch of questions.
