This. (Because you totally couldn't tell that I fangirl all over the Major...) Amazingly insightful, well-written and witty anime, with a stronger female protagonist who is conveniently also very attractive as well as badass. It's thought-provoking too, because it raises some valid philosophical questions. I like Gurren Lagann and Ouran High School Host Club and other more light-hearted shows, but Ghost in the Shell really is awesome. Neon Genesis Evangelion and Bokura Ga Ita are pretty good too. Maybe because I just sit there and cry during every episode...

-epitomizes the idea of 'the ghost in the machine' (for those who don't realize the resemblance)

-presents a different angle on life

there is so much i can write about this but after you get sick of shounen anime, be sure to watch GITS

If you enjoy Death Note, I recommend you watch Code Geass, Monster (psychological thriller - on par with GITS), Darker than Black, Serial Experiments Lain and Black Lagoon.

Yeah Ghost in the Shell is one of my all time favourites.

Eh, too much forced drama for my tastes (similar to Clannad). Also, crying is a lazy emotion IMO (referring to the characters tearing up over EVERYTHING). Still, it was rather good.

I'm really enjoying Tiger & Bunny, Nichijou and Steins;Gate currently. Also, Mawaru Penguindrum has just started, but its first episode was really interesting.

Be sure to stay away from anime blogs, 4chan etc. So many spoilers around :/

nurarihyon no mago sennen makyou, the second season to nurarihyon no mago, and it's really really good, one of the better shounen animes out there. The first season was so-so, your typical shounen with good comedy/fight scenes and all that, but the second season steps it up an entire notch in terms of suspense, plot development and character development.

Also watching Mashiroiro Symphony: The Color of Lovers and hoshizora e kakaru hashi for the cute anime babes ;)

fairy tail!!!!!

...and guilty crown. sigh, i didn't mean to watch GC, until lots of ANers recommended it. the beginning is slow, but it does get good :)
