University students: Do you work?

To the current university students ('09+), do you work or plan on working? Is there a lot of time for work?

I'm just curious, sitting here when I'm supposed to be doing stuff more productive, thinking about my near future and how I'm going to spend it.

I don't work.
Centrelink and my scholarship fund my life.
With the course I'm doing, I don't think I would ever have time to work. Everything is too hard- I remember one of my engineering lecturers saying that if you are working during your uni semester, then its recommended you do 10 hours or less of work per week. Otherwise you risk failing your subjects.
I do know people who do the same course as me and are working - They seem to manage their time well.

I would like to work (for the experience) but I think I would only work in the holidays as a temporary casual or something.

Same. I also worked through year 12 and found a good balance between school and my job.

I think I'll be working in '09.

Depends on how the timetable works out. Also partially because first-year results in my course don't count towards honours anyway. I'm also not eligible for any centrelink payments or scholarships so I'll have to pay my own way. Hopefully I'll earn between 10-20k this year, then I can start trading on the sharemarket.

I worked last year, usually about 16-18 hours a week. I hated it and I felt very stressed about losing that much time. I won't be working next year.

I desperately want to work. Is anyone else starting to feel guilty about living off their parents?

No job, my scholarship funds everything. Though I plan on working this coming semester as a tutor for first- or second-year maths subjects at ANU (as in running tutorials etc.). Very good pay.

I did work for a semester as a tutor for indigenous students at ANU in maths, physics, and linguistics, but it wasn't very convenient for me (as in the students would call up asking for tutoring on a Monday afternoon and I'd have to say no as I had two assignments due at 5pm Monday...).

I don't particularly want to work, to be honest, as last semester I thought I had the perfect balance between study and social life, and a job would change that balance. But I needs more money unfortunately...

Excluding my IBL placements, I did work during my first/second year at Uni - even with the generously sized scholarship that I received from the university. I even worked two jobs at one point; started off with Safeway and got a job at the CSIRO and kept both for some time until I felt the pressure of it.

There's plenty of time to have a job if you make the time. It's all about time management.

Of which I have none of :(
I get quite jealous of the people who work and manage to do quite ok in their studies.
I wish I could be like them...but I know if I do, I will fail my studies.
Kudos to them :)
