hey
is "frames of reference and the nature of space and time" still in the new study design?
cauz i looked at the new heinemann physics 12 textbook and it didnt have it in the motion chapter.

Yup I think what you're looking for is from pg. 187 onwards. It's under the 'Unit 3 Detailed Studies' chapter, so I'm guessing it's an optional chapter among two others.

I believe you still have to do the frames of reference. It may sound intimidating, so here's the plain English version:

You are travelling east at 10km/h, another car is travelling west at 20km/h. What is your relative velocity?

if you can answer that, then you have covered that point in the SD.


As for the nature of space-time, just remember that so long as you are not going ridiculously fast, the Newtonian absolute space absolute time works pretty damn well.

If you're not doing the detailed study to do with Einstein's relativity then I don't think you have to know about frames of reference although as Mao said it's not really that hard to get your head around the frames of reference stuff in the motion part of the old study design.
