Well they say you need 99+ ENTER to be considered. Not sure about UMAT.

Useful stuff

Selection procedure

Applicants must meet the academic threshold of an OP 1 (equivalent TER/UAI of 99+)/equivalent GPA. UMAT scores are used as a secondary selector.

"The major round cut-offs (january offer round) for entry into the BDSc program in 2007 were:

(1) Entry rank 99 (OP 1/GPA 5.8 Group I tertiary institution*, GPA 6.5 Group II institution**) with minimum UMAT score of 170 for a Commonwealth Supported place;
(2) Entry rank 99 (OP 1/GPA 5.8 Group I tertiary institution*, GPA 6.5 Group II institution**) with minimum UMAT score of 156 for a domestic full-fee-paying place;
(3) Entry rank 99 (OP 1/GPA 6.63 Group I tertiary institution*) for an international full-fee paying place. * Group I institutions (Group of Eight research-intensive universities) include University of Queensland, University of Sydney, University of NSW, Australian National University (ANU), University of Melbourne, Monash University, University of Adelaide, and University of Western Australia.

For UQ dent, you need an equivalent to OP1 which is usually an ENTER of 99+, however this fluctuates from year to year.

However, just starting from this year UQ has implemented a new scheme where you get 'bonus' points added to your OP rank if you've done a language or spesh(dunno?). Not sure about the finer details, so check it up yourself. This is why people with ENTERs lower than 99 have gotten in this year.

As UQ does not distinguish between people with higher ENTERs but the same OP, once you satisfy the OP1 requirement, your ENTER will not be used in your final ranking for UQ dent. So the only thing distinguishing applicants is UMAT as there is no interview component. Therefore, your UMAT must be fairly high, above 95%tile at least I'd guess.

On UMAT scores, there are several scores provided when you receive your results. Each section of the UMAT is given a score according to how well you performed, and an overall score is provided for your overall performance in the UMAT as well as the percentile that this overall score represents. It is up to the discretion of each uni to use these scores in the way they want.

Here, the 61 in reference to Monash is the overall score, whereas the 170 in reference to UQ is the sum of the individual section scores. That tells you the different ways these two unis use the scores. Btw, the figure of 170 is probably inaccurate for this year due to the change in the bonus points scheme.

thanks a lot orsel for explaining it
btw, can someone confirm this - the UMAT overall score is calculated by the mean of the individual sections
so for eg. i can get a lowish score in section 1 but blitz the section 3 and still get a decent overall score?

Not exactly.

The 3 sections are differently weighted to give the overall score. Only ACER knows the exact weighting, which is not publicly released. But yes, you can approximate your overall by taking the average, the sections are quite similarly weighted. So your overall can be high even if one particular section is low.
