I had an English and German tutor. English was my worst subject in year 11 (due to a horrible teacher) and it ended up being my best subject in year 12 (in terms of SAC marks and raw scores). However, I believe that this is due to an encouraging and inspiring teacher in year 12. The German tutor was extremely helpful. I wasn't happy with the amount of conversation time and individual attention at school (we had a large class for a LOTE class). I didn't have much trouble with the grammar, however the tutoring enabled me to simply use the language in conversation.

calm the fuck down. even if you get 0 in year 11 you can still get 99.95 in year 12. You are wasting money on units 1/2 subjects that have no significance what so over other than to give you the foundations to build upon in year 12. Just learn the content and keep up to date and you'll be fine. It doesn't matter if you're ranked 1st or last in your class of 25, no one cares at the end of the year.

^i fully agree with hard.
yr 11 is just about getting a solid grasp of the basics. you should be thinking of tutoring when doing year 12 subjects; where it really counts !

i dont have a tutor and have never had one. i think if you use the resources you have (i.e teachers, classmates, textbooks and vcenotes) then you dont really need one.

LOL hard, okay. I just thought if you dont do well in yr 11, you wont build a strong foundation ready for year 12. Also swearing is really unnecessary...

You don't need tutors, I didn't have any nor did I attend any lectures or anything for any of my subjects. ENTER 97. But if you do start the year and feel like you are needing extra help, go to your teachers before you get tutors.

The problem with tutors is you can take their information spoonfeeding for granted, when sometimes you just need to struggle at the problem. After all, it is more effective when you learn from your own mistakes (of course this route takes more effort). However, if you're lucky enough to have a very good tutor, they will recognise the need for you to do your own learning, and will not simply talk out of a textbook or solutions manual.

yer, rather than leaning on someone to always give you that push for you to solve the answer, by developing your own independence of determining the solutions you are better equipped to tackle harder problems in the exam. That's just what i think.

I have come to accept that I am too noob to solve questions independently, and hope that a tutor will help me this year.

Its not good to try and solve a problem by yourself for 1 hour plus especially when SAC's/EXAMS are coming up.. its not like you're going to have 1 hour in an exam to solve the question. Its better off just learning the concepts and if that doesn't work then technique may be of problem?

The above advice is for year 12 students in year 11 you can try things like spending 2hrs plus on some hard questions like me.

Tutoring is not recommended by me for year 11 since it may slack you off when year 12 comes.
Get tutor for your year 12 sub
