Does anyone know if we can access the IB results, or is it only the VCE results that are available to the public?

My school is the biggest lol. We had the most 90+'s this year, but also the most <70's this year. I think we rank at like 130 or something.

Haha, well, that's still better than my school's performance.

I'm a bit disappointed in PLC - it used to be ranked 4 or 5 but since a few years ago (when the new principal came) it's been going down and down the charts. It's ranked 18 now (I think). I'm sad. There was such great potential talent amongst the (mostly Asian and hardworking) students.

Does a new principal really affect students that much? I'm curious, because I don't think mine affects me at all.

I think it's more the 'policies' that the principal suggests or implements, such as:

Since there are so many Asian students who are fluent in Chinese, I think that there should be an 'advanced class', but there isn't one. I didn't want to be stuck in a beginner class but I accepted that I had to be in it or give up Chinese. And they didn't even let me take up Chinese as a language because they branded me and a bunch of my friends as "too advanced"! Fiddlesticks! (This was in Year 7)

Oh wow, that doesn't seem fair at all.

I haven't run into such problems though, that's why I had no idea about what you were talking about at first :)

Personally don't think that the principal, who's been around for 6 years now can be blamed for PLC's 'going down and down' or for the fact that 'such great potential talent' didn't do quite as well as we're used to.

Maybe, if I wanted to go and study overseas, but that said, I do have quite some time to decide.

I agree she can't really be blamed, but I just think she could do something to fix up the situation. But overall, I think she's an excellent principal.

Not necessarily. But there is a correlation - IB is a harder course by a fair amount.

Hehe, I was making a joke about your use of euphemism, relax!

Yeah, fair enough, you have plenty of time to decide. However, I can see you doing HL Chem - it's quite a mouthful in terms of difficulty!

I've heard that IB HL is equivalent to UMEP/MUEP?

Pretty much.

Damnit, I wish VCE could vamp itself up to the English A-levels. London A-level Chemistry is very interesting and quite advanced compared to VCE Chem, which itself isn't bad, but its standard really has to increase.

IBresults come out in january- they're not as public as VCE, but you usually hear about students who've done well.  and yeah, as toucan said, IB is more challenging in some respects, so a lot of the stronger students are choosing to do IB...although it seems to vary at PLC from year to year.
