I don't mean to offend Rohitpi, I too found woodwork boring. I'm just saying, that a saw is used to break up firewood, build a house, cut a branch that is too long. These are all things many of us will do in life, where on earth will you use your knowledge of chemistry?

No offence taken, clearly it was a misunderstanding (seeing your above post). The last point (of the quote) is probably true, but then that could be said about 99% of the VCE. And that's what sucks about it.

For example, the only 'real-life' maths one will need are basic operations (addition, knowing decimals, etc.), ratios (to find what is cheaper in supermarkets) and probability (for the occasional punt)!

Some subjects, like spesh, psych, ancient special hebrew, etc. have no practical value in life.

Hmm, in my native Italy, you do 13 final year subjects, giving you a broad education where you have to study at least two humanaties, literature from two countries, maths, two sciencesa and two foreign languages amongst your other subjects. Once you go to university, you specialise in the field you like most, makes much more sense to me. Also, the history taught in this nation is appaling, most people don't even know when WW2 was!

The last point of the above post; yes! History should be made compulsory at least until year 11, it's no wonder we have such an ignorant society when most people have no idea why any world wars occurred or how Australia was settled. I did History in year 11 (units 1 and 2) and it provided me with invaluable knowledge that has given me a more well-rounded level of intelligence.

@flash36 I haven't touched history in about 3 years (I actually don't know the exact date/year of WW2) but I have a decent knowledge in science. Am I an ignorant by your definition?

Be careful when you guys talk about the value of what we learn. Nothing we learn is useless. It simply means that the other skills like using a saw/cooking etc have a higher chance of being useful than scientific knowledge. But the wording is starting to sound like we're totally dismissing science/maths/languages and their worth.

Not at all xZero. But alot of people, regardless of their education have little knowledge of basic Australian and world history, which in my opinion is invaluable knowledge to have.

i would tend to agreee, i did enjoy history, howver, for what i want to do at uni, it would be of no benefit. i want to do what flash is actually doing in 2012...and history isnt really anything to do with it,...

as for hardest subject, surely it has to come down to individual tastes, for me to do an art, over a subject such as P.E or business would be 100000000000^99999999 harder just because its not where my talent lies...which then applies to almost everything in life, for some people sitting down in an office and working is 'easy' where others its is a torture.

It all depends on the individual.
Some might find chemistry and physics easy and struggle with something like history or economics.
If there is no interest in that subject area either it kind of makes the subject a lot more tedious and harder.
