Carmina was FANTASTIC. My friends and I had a ball playing it, and we were on a complete high afterwards.

I think the director of music was happy with it for a change. Most conductors shake the concertmaster's hand, but she decided to kiss me on the cheek instead...

Lol we stuffed up our carmina

I had a conductor completely unexpectedly kiss my cheek once at the end (concerto performance), it was extremely awkward and rather scary

Our conductor tended to be over-ambitious ... we attempted the Firebird suite once ... needless to say, didn't turn out well :P

An arrangement or the actual thing? If it was the actual thing, I can't imagine how the woodwind would've felt... and then there would've been all of the jete bowing in the violins!

Well for the Monash University Philharmonic Orchestra, we're doing a few pieces for the Melbourne School Strings Festival as well as our winter concert. Off the top of my head

For MSSF:
William Tell Overture - G.Rossini
Nimrod from Enigma Variations - Elgar

For Spring Concert
Overture to 'West Side Story' - Bernstein arr. Maurice Peress

Sounds like this

Capriccio Italien - Tchaikovsky
"this post is more confusing than actual chemistry.... =S" - Mao

The actual thing.

I was part of the woodwind and we almost died.

Poor, poor Ninwa. We wanted to do Festive Overture, but our conductor, being the sage individual that she is, decided that it was NOT a good idea.

Our conductor's not coming to South Street though. Now THAT'S going to be interesting.

Had our first concerto concert rehearsal today, and it's going quite well.  ^_^

On the topic of overambitious, we just got a new conductor, and for his first ever concert he tried to organise a Berlioz march, the full Rach 1 piano concerto and the full Sibelius Symphony No. 2.  It actually turned out alright, but I think he's going to be a bit more wary next time...>_>;;

Ah, I was going to go to that concert, but I already had 2 other things on that night.

I wish we could do Symphonie Fantastique in Orchestra...

It is not quite the same, but I am in our school concert band and Jazz ensemble.

The best piece that we played where someone soloed was flight of the bumblebee. Awesome.
