and also, i dont think the shopowner person could be labelled sadistic..its wayyy tooi extreme no?
yea exactly imo too extreme, but others dispute this.

it did seem extreme...but then i remember the passage said something about the manager punishing them more severely when there were customers around watching as opposed to when they were by themselves.....something along those lines......anyway seemed pretty sadistic to me

sadly, all the umat evaluates is ability to do well in the umat...
u go to some of the leading doctors of the present day and ask them to find patterns or pick the middle figure in a sequence..

abstract/spatial reasoning is pretty important as a medical professional. The UMAT is just testing skills that are seen as relevant to success in medicine. They need some way to establish who has them and the UMAT is what they use.

i think they really need to come up with something better than umat.  it used to work, but now it is seriously just a joke.  perhaps a series of intensive interviews or something with lots of situational activities.  perhaps even compulsary work experience in a hospital or something.

for mine, the umat is just dumb, pointless and honestly comes down to luck for many.

there are always the select few who will dominate it no matter what, and i have a lot of respect for those people, but tbh it doesn't mean shit in terms of being a good healthcare professional.
fucking A stonecold...

Stonecold I respect the hard work you put in, but mate, saying that is pretty naive of you. If you become a health professional, you'll realise that it actually IS a decent test. No doubt it can come down to luck, but there NEEDS to be a test that TRIES to seperate med wannabies from med want to bes.

sadly, all the umat evaluates is ability to do well in the umat...

Believe it or not, but finding the next sequence CAN play a major role in determining how good a doctor you are. Sure they're people who don't test well on the day, but part of the test is how well you work under pressure. Hospitals can have much more stressful environments..

And for those who have an actual excuse, there is a reason why older people are allowed to sit the UMAT

i suppose spatial reasoning is desired for picking up on patterns in PET scans, x-rays so forth...

still, the umat is a rediculous test, and the entire admission system is rediculous too.
wayy too subjective, and ends up taking in 170 or so of the exact same people..

No idea what you mean by 170 of the exact same people, but how is the UMAT way too subjective?

the umat + th einterview + vce ends up allowing the same type of people into med school... a bunch of people hoo may be able to tell a joke and make others alugh but hoo may not necessairly beocme leaders in their respective fields or excel in the scinetific part of medicine..

if im in hospital, i want a docotr... not a comedian..

^^i'll assume that his last post was legit and respond accordingly lol :P

If you're in the hospital then the person treating you will be a doctor. Medical school is hard. If you graduate, you're capable. Being personable is just a nice bonus.

And how does the UMAT or VCE select for people who are comedians? The interview is to select charismatic individuals, but the people getting into medicine are all capable and deserve their place.

I think that the UMAT is luck of the draw in what the questions are (since it's not based on a set curriculum) but I disagree with calling it subjective and terrible. In any case, if you go via the graduate pathway (a very significant amount of places) you'll find that it plays to a more scientifically minded individual.
