Our best bowler being Marcus North says a lot about how we're going. >.<
1 run. 1 wicket. I see a pattern? [Maybe next time 2runs, 2wickets :)]
...Seriously though, Johnson is just painful to watch. Did you see that around-the-wicket ball/bouncer that just ripped past Haddin for the easiest 4 runs in the history of cricket!?

When do you think a declaration will occur (if at all)?
Hopefully as soon as they get back from lunch.

Hopefully, a declaration from England's part (although my question was initially for Australia :) )

They should open with Haddin and Watson and try to go for a slog

I don't think they'll declare over lunch. At this point a draw is probably the most likely unless Australia folds completely. England will probably send us in at some point before tea and then try to take 10.

Does anyone else think that the catch Ponting claimed to catch was a genuine catch? (umpire gave it not-out)

I thought on the replay it was fairly clear (most commentators also agreed), not that it will make much difference to the result anyway...

Is that official? Because I'm not sure why they'd switch Hughes for North

Nah, just what i want to see happen. :P

I reckon they could have Hughes open and drop Watson/Katich to the middle order.

Doesn't seem like a bad plan... There was an article in The Age today regarding Hilfenhaus' spot not being certain for the next test, but little mention of North for some reason...

+1.  Good and required changes.

They won't drop Doherty after his first game, but I reckon there is little point having a spinner.  Would much rather Brad Hodge, although again this would never happen.

If we want mediocre spin bowling then Clarke is more than capable of providing this without taking up another spot in the team.

Wouldn't put Hughes in. I would opt for Callum Ferguson. Hughes still hasn't fixed his tendecy to get caught in the slips. If Anderson swings it, he's a goner.

Johnson has to go for the next 2 tests, bring him back for the boxing day test at the G. Surely running into bowl with a 3 week rest and 85,000+ getting behind you has to get him up!
as for clarke, he needs to go as well, give him a rest...

i dont really like doherty, not that he played badly, but more the fact that he hasnt been playing much longer forms of the game in state cricket, so i dont think he knows how to bowl in a test situation...
dougy bollinger or harris in for johnson and clarke/north out for whoever :)
