I was wondering if anyone knows how long the tour goes for with your host next Tuesday for O-Week, since there are other lectures to get to as well that day.

Thanks

My tour for o-week last year was ~45 minutes. However it probably varies between host groups. You can leave your host group any time during the tour if you don't find it interesting and do your own thing.

Does it  matter what version of textbooks we buy?
I'm trying to buy the blackman chemistry2e but there are so many different versions (wiley plus card, wiley plus 4 card, with molecular model kit...)
and also if there is a new edition out  (biology an aus focus) is it better to buy the new one?

I would get whatever moderately recent edition is cheapest. Most subjects will provide you with equivalent page references for older editions or even previous textbooks, but even if they don't it's not hard to find the equivalent pages. Sometimes it can get a little annoying but for example I used an entirely different textbook for Chem2 because they changed it after Id bought it, and that wasn't a problem.

Metabolism is fun for me when I try and work out the mechanism of every step, but other than that, it's pretty dry when it comes to memorising where/when alphaketoglutarate is formed, for instance.

Yeah that's what I mean. When you're actually learning what's happening and why that's kind of cool, but the raw memory work is shocking.

So I think I may have done something silly...

As those who have done MCB would know, the CALs are replaced with two 90 minute practicals for the microbiology and immunology component of the subject, which are held at WEHI. Most people seemed to have opted for a 9am practical, leaving a gap in their timetable, while I went for the 10:30am practical so that I didn't have a gap. However, upon closer inspection of my timetable, my next lecture at 12pm is MCB in the Asia Centre. I'm not confident I'll make it to that lecture in time, or that the practical class will finish early, so should I try to change into the 9am practical class? Also, if I try to change and there isn't a spot available, is there any chance I'll lose my current spot? Thanks. :)

Missing the first five minutes of a lecture shouldn't matter all that much :) Plus, MCB is usually pretty good with recording.

I think it's a good opportunity to join/rejoin clubs on the Thursday/Friday of o-week. However it's not a necessity to attend if you're not a 1st year.

Alright, sounds good. Thanks so much for responding!  :)

Also, do you know what you do in those 45 minutes? I assume that it's mainly tours around campus?

I remember our host playing an icebreaker game once everyone arrived...then we walked around the important parts of the uni and received tips/info about those places.

With the co-op bookshop, are parents allowed to come in (sounds dumb, just wondering if only students can shop there)?
I'm gonna buy my books and I kinda need them to come and pay haha I'm broke

Yes that's fine. The co-op sells a lot more than just university textbooks so a lot of non-students shop there.

The Co-op doesn't ask for student ID's...so how are they going to know your parents aren't university staff? :P
