heyyyy I need some advice :s

so for my breadth next sem I want to do either BIOL10005 or Principles of Business Law, but I'm not sure what to choose... I've heard blaw is an easy H1 but I might apply to transfer to BSc for next year, so that's why I did bio this semester and may continue with it.

would continuing bio benefit me in the long run if I choose to transfer? or is blaw better because I could 'easily' get a high mark which will improve my WAM and help me transfer?

I should probably post this in the requests thread, but if anyone could do an up to date review of IFA2 or BusFi that'd be cooool and I'd be grateful as :)

I just finished mine on BusFi. Go and have a look  :)

In some subjects in arts I keep seeing taking home exams , with these how long do you have to complete them? Also, in regards to prescribed texts, they refer to subject readers available at the coop store but I cannot find them. Also, do you have to read all the books in subject readers because in some of the courses im looking at there around 10 to 12 books in them and they are rather lengthy.
one last thing, when timetabling, if lectures clash for a subject can you still enrol into them?

I'm guessing it will depend on the subject...I did Language (Arts Foundation) last semester and we had from Friday 9 am til Tuesday 5 pm.
The readers should be there if they say it will....maybe they'll come closer to the start of semester? I'm purely guessing though. You might also want to check whether the readings will be available online (they were for Language, but I bought the reader anyway...I just much prefer reading from an actual book)
With timetable clashes, if it's a recorded lecture (I think most of them are, but not all) then you can always go to the other class you have, then listen to the recording at home. The university 'does not recommend this' but you can do it. If you have two tutorials clashing though, you obviously can't attend both at the same time so you won't be able to meet the attendance requirement (ie. if it's a hurdle requirement then you will fail :P)
Anyways. Most lectures are recorded and they don't take attendance, so if that's the case you can enrol. And then it's a matter of whether you find being there in the lecture more effective for your own learning, or using the recording at home (you can pause to take notes and speed up/slow down the person's talking, but then some lecturers walk around and/or write on the board so you might miss some little details/feel like the person's trying to kill your ears.)
I guess it's a matter of how much you really want to do those two subjects, and what kind of learner you are, and your luck getting a lecturer you like  :P And how likely you are to skip classes/catch up in your own time 8)

Oh, and if the clash is between two of your compulsory subjects then you should just report it to the uni and I guess they will help you out somehow. :D
Hello hello la la la  :D

does anyone have any review on "BCMB30004: neurochemistry and cell signalling" or have heard anything about it? It seems to be unspoken of EVERYwhere.

I haven't done it, but top tip: don't do it if you're doing it for the neurochem, there's only a few lectures on it. Most of it's cell signalling.

If you intend to do both then I'd recommend doing bio first as you can only do it in sem 2 + BLAW lecturer for sem 1 is better than the lecturer for sem 2

If you are asking for strictly one or the other I'd still recommend bio simply due to how many Level 2 subjects require it, but if you are certain you do not intend to a biological science route, then do BLAW

Hey guys,

Does anyone know how much emphasis employers (in commerce fields) place on your GPA/WAM?

I am doing the software engineering breath sequence with my commerce degree, and software engineering is hard so will obviously drag down my GPA/WAM.

When future employers look at my GPA, will they say:

"this kid has a low GPA, he didn't try in uni, he won't be effective in our company"

or will they say:

"hey, despite the fact that this kid has a low GPA, he did substantially harder subjects in his breath (as opposed to doing relatively easy subjects/budge subjects). He challenged himself, he will be effective in our company"

I don't know guys, if most employers do the former, then it is a real shame.

From my perspective, it is so sad seeing people waste their limited time at uni doing 'easy H1' subjects just for the grade, when they could be gaining real knowledge in so many interesting fields.

Anyway, thanks for reading and I appreciate all help!

I have realised over my time in interviews that people do not know very much about whether a subject is hard or not LOL Unless it has a really hard name like "Chinese" or "calculus" but even then they want you to have done well in general. Easy subjects are also noticed if they're a bludge but if for example someone always does music subjects that are easy they'll just think you like music LOL
So in essence they basically don't really know it a subject is easy or hard so

Not all employers went to UoM. Or Monash, or RMIT, or whatever uni people are going to. The odds are that your prospective employer won't know what subjects are easy or hard. To them, they just see your transcript with numbers on it.

I would just choose the breadth subjects that you consider useful and/or interesting. In my opinion, difficulty of a subject shouldn't even factor into whether you do a subject or not. Also, keep in mind that just because a subject is perceived to be difficult doesn't necessarily mean you'll get poorer marks in them, and just because a subject is considered "easy" doesn't preclude you from doing badly in it. With this in mind, it's entirely possible for you to get good marks in your software engineering breadth and get the best of both worlds, if you're willing to put in the work.

Hey guys, just wondering if it's possible to start a language in 2nd sem, as usually the entry points for languages are only offered in semester 1. ie Chinese 1, 3, 5, 7, 9.
