If anyone could help me with this, then that would be great.
We learnt this myotome rap:
snakes alive, it’s C5’-shoulder flexion, external rotation, and abduction
‘down from heaven, 6 & 7’-shoulder extension, internal rot, and adduction
‘5,6 pick up sticks’-elbow flexion
‘7,8 put ‘em in the grate’-elbow extension
‘supine flicks, that’s C6’-supination
‘pronate, 7,8’-pronation
‘royal wavin’ 6 & 7’-wrist flexion/extension
‘grab it tight, 7 & 8’-finger flexion/extension
‘last, have fun with T1’ (‘twinkle, twinkle’)-finger adduction/abduction
Therefore..
If you were to injure the C5/C6 dermatome, I would have thought that the following would be affected according to the myotome rap:
-Shoulder flexion-C5
-Elbow flexion-C5/C6
-Wrist flexion/extension-C6/C7
-Supination-C6
However, in the notes it only says that the elbow flexors and forearm supination would be affected?
Does anyone know why this is the case?
I thought that mabye for wrist F/E, the fact that there is another myotome supplying this region would mean that this other myotome could compensate for the damage of the other myotome.
However, if this was the case, wouldn't shoulder flexion still be affected because it is C5.
