also - is anyone doing international finance tomorrow?
this might be the most difficult and content heavy subject i've ever done with one of the most bare formula sheets despite it being very math heavy and formula intensive

I saved mine all for exchange! :)

isn't that a gamble though, what if you don't do any breadths thinking you'll get into an exchange program and are unable to do so ? i'm guessing you'd have to cram all your breadths into 3rd year somehow (overload?)

worst case he can self organise a winter study abroad in 3rd year and smash out 2 subjects of work there and then do a breadth or two in sem 2 including a september intensive if needed

What do you mean by self organise a winter study abroad in 3rd year? Is that the exchange where you just fork out the fees for everything yourself and not worry about being selected?

essentially, but you still get an OS-HELP loan so that you basically get a CSP spot for the subjects you do. you still have to pay for living costs etc. but thats the same as on exchange. Most of the big universities have it, you go to their website and look for their summer school program (northern hemisphere summer is our winter) and alot of them offer 6 week classes which is their equivalent to melbourne unis summer semester except theres is open to students from any uni.
for example i went to a school in america, you just pick a school, pay the fees and deposit and youre in. you dont have to pay for tuition fees/living costs for a while until all your stuff is sorted out with uni. you have to go on your own to melbourne uni and give faculty advisors for different fields a copy of your subjects syllabus where you are studying and they will approve it as credit as a 1/2/3rd level subject in their faculty. then once ur subjects are approved and you pay ur fees living expenses u just go. i was gonna go to the harvard summer school (anyone can go u just pay) but it was way wayy to expensive and not worth it + boston isnt as fun as florida or california. so i picked a cheaper option at a still very good school and had a blast. the OS-HELP loan covered all the tuition fees but living costs are obviously separate. i knocked out 2 subjects worth of credit in 6 weeks and it was the easiest shit of my life. I was kinda scared cos online reviews said the subjects I was picking were meant to be pretty hard and people do them in summer cos they failed during the semester and alot of my classmates struggled but it was quite honestly really easy. after going to uni in singapore america and australia i can firmly say the university of melbourne is way way harder than these other countries. summer school at melbourne uni makes these other schools look like year 9 english.

anyway rant over - but yeah, if you don't get into an exchange google "XXXX university summer school" for most big american unis they have one. just the fees rack up and some of them are expensive as shit but its pretty cool if you can find an affordable one. Also melbourne uni gives $5000 interest free to students for this if you need it and you dont have to pay them back until you get a full time job after graduating. its probably not quite as fun as exchange as you get way less time there but its still pretty cool. I would still prefer exchange though just because it would be a less intensive workload and spending 6 months somewhere would be more fun than 2 months. One recommendation i do have is melbourne uni commerce has a subject "international business experience" which is a second year commerce subject, and you basically spend july studying abroad with other people doing the one of these study abroad programs, except melbourne uni pay for the fees and a few unimelb students go. The best part is you don't get assessed overseas, it all happens when you get back. so people were worrying about exams and studying crazy hard because they cram the equivalent of 3rd year investments into 4 weeks, but because you go under a melbourne uni subject all the assessment happens when you get back (you just write a journal about your experience and give an oral presentation about what you learnt). and the universities that unimelb send people to have the best social programs etc. especially the one in singapore at SMU. its super popular year after year and it is fkn LIT. highly recommend

ok now the rant is over for real i got an exam tomorrow.
peace out

Exchange is purely based on wam, so as long as your wam is like >65, you'll be guaranteed at least somewhere :)

this sounds dumb but how does one even go on exchange? How does it work? Where do you apply?
Also can you do it whenever in your degree (even if you take longer than 3 years)??

You have to first go to a talk called myWorld or something run by Melbourne Global Mobility, then you have to apply a year in advance. I think there are two times a year you can apply to go on exchange or study abroad for the following year's semester.
For B-ENVS if its anything like BDES where we have an insane amount of pre-requisites for majors in third year, I am not going to even try and figure out how/if i can go during my undergrad. But otherwise i think you can go whenever! The link to their website is below, they have some decent info

I just checked my results and have noticed my WAM has changed without a new subject coming up, this happened to me last sem too. Has this happened to any of you guys? I've been able to figure out the score I would have gotten for whatever subject has been uploaded, do you reckon this would be accurate at this point?
I am so anxious to find what subject its from!! If its my score for one of my harder subjects i will be stoked but otherwise I'm bummed  :P

It happened for all 4 of my subjects last sem and they were all accurate. Your WAM usually gets adjusted before the subject actually appears. I can't comment 100% on the credibility of the mark but it is likely to be accurate.

Can confirm that this has always worked for me since they started giving WAM.
You can work out what subject it was by asking people doing the same subject if theirs changed too. Just make sure they’re not doing other subjects that are also the same as ones you’re doing!

So I haven't done a subject that has group assessments (that makes up 12.5-25% of the subject grade), so I just want people's thoughts, group work with strangers (everyone I'm friends with in uni aren't from my tutes/lectures/subjects) -yay or nay?

If it makes any difference, the subjects I'm considering aren't bludge- 2nd/3rd year Anthropology subjects

it really depends. I've done heaps of group stuff and it's very hit or miss. Often one person takes the lead and others follow, but sometimes there's a couple of people who are very slack and refuse to do their part. If that happens you can complain to your tutor though and it gets resolved pretty quickly through the marks given.
Every time I've done a group project we've been marked individually which was partly determined by an evaluation we had to do of ourselves and the group members

Doesn't matter if you aren't friends, I have made some friends through group projects. Not every time but it is possible. Most people are very compliant and generally want to do well/don't want to intentionally stuff up others
Just make sure your group is organised and everyone is clear on their tasks from the beginning. Finish the work early then go over it

What is everyone's experience with supplementary exams? Are they harder than the original exam?

in my experience theyre usually easier. They just test the core skills and knowledge of the subject without the super crazy questions designed to separate the H1's from the rest of the cohort
