so i'm in a bit of a pickle atm. one of lecture times just changed and it overlaps with one of my other lectures - problem is, there's only one timeslot for both lectures. i contacted stop 1 and they basically said that i have the option to either 1) drop the breadth subject (the other one is part of my major), or 2) watch the lecture online. based off them, i'm inclined to drop the breadth because they said that it isn't recommended that you solely watch lectures online because they're "supplementary material", but personally, i just wanna watch the lectures online because i really want to do both subjects. thoughts on what I should do? also, i'll only be missing one of out 3 if i watch the lecture online, if that matters.

thanks for all help.

edit: more general question; are all lectures recorded? or only those in specific locations or something. the lecture i'll need to watch online is in elisabeth murdoch g06 for reference.

if you watch lects online anyway you should be okay with 1 clash - it isn't too uncommon for someone to get a clash and just choose to go to 1 of the two and watch the other lecturer at home. Just make sure you check whether attendance is mandatory

It should state it in the handbook. If there is mandatory attendance they will provide an exemption based upon academic commitments.

Watching lectures online isn't terrible, especially if it is only one lecture. I'm in a similar position, there is a clash between 2 core subjects, luckily neither has an attendance.

Ok, thank you both Sine and sweetcheeks for the help! Two more question; are we allowed to have deliberate clashes in our timetable (e.g being registered into a lecture and a tutorial that both start at 11 and end at 12)? Or will they not allow that?

And

Are all lectures recorded or if not, how do i check which ones are?

There is nothing stopping you from doing that. All lectures are supposed to be recorded. Issues do arise from time to time (lack of audio, lack of video, document camera on wrong screen). If an issue does arise, most departments solve this by uploading a lecture from the previous year, which whilst it is not ideal it is better than completely missing it. Be aware if the lecturer uses the whiteboard, it won't be recorded.

So I got kicked out of introductory microeconomics in semester 2 for my breadth. How feasible would be doing intermediate macro in sem 2 directly after introductory, then doing the same for micro in year 2? Otherwise I will just fill with another subject.

Purely in terms of the subject content for intro micro/macro (which I assume the respective intermediate courses will build upon), there wasn't too much cross-over, only really the basic concepts of supply/demand curves and international trade and opportunity cost (which can be picked up pretty easily upon reading), so it sounds doable. However, intro micro is listed as a prereq for intro macro (not sure if there are ways around this, happy for someone else to confirm), so actually enrolling in intro macro (and hence inter macro) without it might be an issue.

As sweetcheeks said, this is allowed, and I know of many people who successfully "get away with it" (plus I also rely on lecture capture far more than you're suppose to :P ). However, another thing to point out is that mid semester exams (if your subjects have them) will usually be scheduled during your lecture times, so you may need to have a replacement tutorial or something like that if this occurs during that week.

For 90% of subjects, yes. Make sure you read the handbook for your specific subject though.

Definitely check the handbook / LMS for each subject. Some subjects don't have tutorials / pracs in the first week but a fair number do, although it's usually an introductory get-to-know-people tutorial or a revision tutorial.

Okay thank-you! So when you check the timetable for your subject on the handbook do the dates they list mean that a lecture/tutorial is on then?

Okay thank-you! So when you check the timetable for your subject on the handbook do the dates they list mean that a lecture/tutorial is on then?
If you go through the handbook -> timetable, you'll see what weeks they start (wouldn't recommend but possible)
If you look at your individual timetable, you can view it by week so should be able to see what classes you do / don't have in the first week.
Lecturers usually post on LMS (and often gets sent to uni email too) when tutorials and pracs start, so this will probably be the easiest and most reliable.

Does anyone know if summer subjects have special consideration / exams? I've been a bit unwell the past couple days and I know I didn't perform like I should have so was considering applying but I couldn't find anything on it, only sem 1 and 2 special / supp exams.

does having a withdrawn on your transcript look really bad when applying to graduate courses? :S
