Unless you plan to learn the chemical principles over summer, sit the UK GAMSAT in September next year instead.

Hey people, with the GAMSAT, I'm in first year now and I was thinking of sitting it next year, but I have basically no chemistry knowledge (I'm not taking it until 2nd year, long story...) , it would be pretty much a waste of $450 to sit it in 2014 right?
Without Chem there's no way I'd get a score high enough (70+) to kind of guarantee not having to resit in 2015 anyway hey...

A lot of people have no prior chem background when completing the gamsat (for example if they are doing an arts degree) and a lot of it they self learn using textbooks, khan academy, etc. You could learn as much chem as possible over the holidays and have a crack at the GAMSAT in march which would be a good practice. I plan on sitting the gamsat at least 3 times (hopefully i wont have to any more), being twice next year and once in my 3rd year. I say if you can afford it, do some intensive chem over the holidays and have a try in march.

Omg I have a similar condition--not gonna take chem until 2nd year and must jump to chem 2 haha
That's why I'm worried about how well should in do in fundamentals

Yeah it was a serious oversight, I orignally wasn't going to finish the Bachelor degree and just do the prerequisites for the Eng Masters (I already have a Bachelor).... so I started off part time, without Chemistry.... and then decided I wanted to do the full Bachelor but it was too late to take up Chem.  Oh well - just gotta get that H1 in Fundamentals!

Someone else posted it, the GAMSAT chemistry doesn't really require you to know proper chemistry in detail. You could learn the important bits over summer if you really want to have a shot in March.

Thanks very much Russ, thats great to know.  I'm already doing some Chem work to try and make it easier in Fundamentals next year. Maybe the GAMSAT will be a go-er.

Lots of people on pagingdr sit the GAMSAT without having background science in their degree, and just study up during the summer break. Apparently S3 tests your scientific reasoning more than just what you know lol

That being said, it might be good to "invest" in some textbooks (like Zumdahl/McMurray/Chemistry For Dummies/etc).

(I can't believe I've already started searching up/bought resources to study up on - homg so far yet so close)

May I ask which resources you purchased? I'm looking to buy some gamsat material if they aren't too expensive!

I got the MCAT Examkrackers (Verbal Reasoning 101, Inorganic/Organic Chem + Physics, not going to buy Bio though), and I might be buying a few pieces of literature (Oxford Book of Essays, and I'll have to hunt for a lot more books). I'm probably not going to purchase Des O Neil's MCQ Humanities and Science books until December/January though. They do seem more on the pricey side so I guess try to get it second-hand if you can.

pagingdr has lots of information on resources as well, probably worth checking it out

tbh i havent purchased anything and have gotten tonnes of free material. First thing to do is join the paging dr forum and you can find out anything and everything to do with gamsat, medicine etc. There are many facebook groups too and a lot of them have a bunch of free material.

What if your parents were actually time-travellers and they came back from the future and then named you after your username?

I think I'm in love with Zumdahl, I'm understanding physics the FIRST TIME I look at it. I could have just skipped the quantum lectures entirely :V
