It appears that an excess of students enrolled, and who is selected is dependent on  who registers first on 06/01/2014? They seem a bit disorganized.

Yeah it looks like you made it through the first step (enrolling) but you need to be one of the first 144 students to register for classes to be able to take the subject. It's VCA…. so yeah, it's disorganised.  I spent 3 years of my life in that place.   But it sounds like a cool subject!

The Master of Engineering with Business Specialization allows you to take 5 subjects specifically made for these courses by the Melbourne School of Engineering and the Melbourne Business school in place of your 5 advanced engineering electives in 5th year. This is a good and bad thing in my opinion. You'll lose out on advanced knowledge (which goes a little further than traditional undergrad engineering I've been told) but I'm not too sure how useful that will be in the industry unless you are dealing with advanced design and R&D.

On the other hand, you'll get business competency which is directly relevant to the engineering industry. I'm personally going to go down the full technical route (M.E. (Mechanical), no business) because I'd prefer to solidfy all my tech knowledge. I'll be keeping a close eye on how it is implemented next year as it is it's first year, and I'll have a better opinion then.

Apologies Hancock, I wasn't referring to the ME 'with Business'. When I said 'business' I just meant, like, 'situation' - see the long post I made yesterday on a previous page.

But on that topic, I am not considering the 'with Business' MEng option either. I remember you were leaning quite heavily towards it at first. But I would rather gain as much technical knowledge as possible.

Regarding women in Civil... There is growing pressure on employers to develop and maintain a better gender ratio than there has been in the past. At the moment, female engineers do have a slight advantage in the competitive male-dominated fields just because of their gender. But also as I said, your skills have to be as good as everyone else's too, so the difference is marginal.

Yeah, this. The difference isn't great. You can't get shit grades and no work experience and expect to get a job just cause you're female. But yeah there are a variety if reasons why it's a little less hard for females in male-dominated Eng fields.

Do you feel you would perform as well in civil as you would in biomed eng? I personally perform terribly when I don't enjoy a task, and my prospects would likely be better in biomed eng because my GPA would be higher. With a field like civil eng, I likely would skip all the lectures, aha.

 Is it also possible that anecdotal information regarding low opportunities for biomed eng only seem low relative to other engineering fields? Outside that context, biomed eng relative to all other occupations seems like a stable and high paying choice, and is also a rapidly growing field. Though ofc those in the eng field have the most abundant and accurate information, have you sought advice on the financial outcomes of biomed eng from objective sources removed from engineering?

If a female is on campus, I recommend chasing after Kayla in Doug McDonnell. She was holding a focus group for women and let me eat all the cookies. I left some debris if anyone wants to contribute to the world of marketing.
