I envy all you people who can enjoy bio.

Don't worry, we probably all think your love for Physics is bordering on the insane. Ok, maybe I just do...

And we slide further down the slippery slope that is insanity...

I should probably stop paying out people's area of studies. I actually don't mind botany, physics or literature everyone. Love <3

It means nothing if I can't get a job from it. I might just have to stick with a chemistry and some other life science major.

You can do Physics and still get into Chemistry though. The head of Chemistry is actually a Physicist with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in mathematics.

You shouldn't worry about the job side of it though, mate. You got a 99.95, back yourself :)

I envy all you people who can enjoy bio.

If it helps, biology is huge and there are good odds that you'll find an aspect you'll like after some broad study. For example, I'm getting really into regenerative medicine and I'm going to apply for an internship at the ARMI in the winter!

If you're really into physics, biomedical engineering is a pretty great cross-disciplinary area :)

Edit: books --> 'biology is', thanks iPhone

99.95 means nothing. It really doesn't mean anything aside from the fact that I spent my time in years 9-10 learning Methods and spesh and that my school had an awesome year 11 science program.

It's not that. I do have my crazy study plan up my sleeve if I really want to do a triple major and I could, if I had to, take an extra semester to do it. I need to see if I can do enough level 1 science subjects to meet the 62.5 point requirement but not have them credited. If I could manage that, I reasoned that I can allow myself to do an extra six subjects, which is a LOT of health science subjects. IF.

I know what I WANT to do. I don't know how to intersect what I want to do with what will give me a decent career that won't let me starve.

That's very humble, but nonetheless, it still is an impressive achievement, as you know!

It depends on which type of physics you like as well if you want to pursue that. Whether you like particle physics and cosmology, or whether you prefer applied physics and classical physics. Obviously the latter has more to do with engineering, whereas particle physics and cosmology are the areas of greatest research interest.

In fairness, I flip-flop between preferred areas of study on a monthly basis :P

Now that sounds more familiar...

What's it actually about?

ARMI or biomedical engineering?

ARMI is the Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute, which studies and develops means of regrowing and normalising function of cells, tissues and organs in an artificial setting. Think growing hearts, lungs and kidney in a lab, amazing stuff! ARMI itself is based at Monash, but I'm sure WEHI or a comparable UoM-linked institute (possibly ARMI as well) have a few regenerative medicine labs.

Biomedical engineering as a discipline is devoted to combining engineering with medical theory and practice. It's given us - and is giving us - technologies from MRIs to pharmaceutical drugs to regenerative medicine to biotechnological implants to monitor, prevent and even treat conditions while allowing patients to go about their daily lives :)

Some days I want to pursue 40, some days I want to pursue none. It's mental.

What do you reckon they all just flip a coin? A 40 sided coin...

I've always been stuck on Engineering, but Law and Finance flicker in my mind every once in a while. I can at least get into Finance with an Engineering degree so I'm not too worried about where my career goes.
Thinking of doing Engineering? - Engineering FAQs

2012 - 2014: B.Sc. - Mechanical Systems - The University of Melbourne
2014 - 2014: Cross-Institutional Study - Aero/Mech Engineering - Monash University
2015 - 2016: M.Eng (Mechanical with Business) - The University of Melbourne
2015 - Sem1: Exchange Semester - ETH Zurich

So biomed at monash doesn't have majors/minors etc, but picking for science was a bit tricky and I'm genuinely glad for you guys that you don't have double-degrees because of it. I could only pick from a select list of majors (chose genetics, most others were ecology/plants/chemistry/maths etc) + another science major if I wanted (pick physiology). Initially I wanted to do a Micro/Immuno double major but neither of those were on the select list that I needed to pick on. Pretty dodgy system for a few reasons and I'm trying to get the university to remove that policy, but it'll take a long time haha

Are choosing majors at UoM straightforward, or are there things you guys need to plan for?
