With Pharm you can recognise what a drug generally does by its suffix (ie -Onol for Beta Blockers); I've found it slightly helpful but I still need to spend time memorising receptors.

We'll probably only start looking at how drugs are used next week.

Yeah, so far the only real section of the course with a heavy emphasis on memorising drugs was the section on autonomic nervous system pharmacology. It definitely looks like that from the course plan. I'm definitely expecting a lot more as the semester drags on.

Do you know what they'll cover in the midsem test?

Unless they have changed it form previous semesters, it will be weeks 1-6

Like I said a while ago, last year when several people who'd been ill posted on the discussion board asking why, when the subject was listed as recorded, his section wasn't, he gave no actual reasons and eventually stopped responding to any student emails or posts.

On the sunny side, he's a terrible lecturer so he wouldn't have made quantum mechanics any easier regardless.

If Michelle is still taking the quantum mechanics lectures in the other timeslot, go to hers. She's beautiful.

I didn't think his reasons were ridiculous. He clearly said that he thought that not providing lecture capture would be conducive to learning the material, and so he's being true to his method of teaching (so I don't think he's a jerk because of this - I am yet to find out how good he is at lecturing though.)

I do think his premise is flawed though - that we'll only be able to truly think about the material if we go and find multiple sources of information and don't rote-learn his words if they were to be recorded. 

I've heard that he doesn't upload lecture slides either, and he told students not to email him with any questions about his lectures?

He's uploaded today's slides. He said that most questions could reasonably go onto the chem discussion board he's set up.

The best way to approach Trevor Smith's material is going to the chemistry learning centre with all the other confused students

There should be 2012 recordings floating around somewhere, although it's been a few years now so I'm not sure how indicative they are.

I'd just get a copy of Zumdahl (or any first year chemistry textbook,) and learn it from that. It's what most people have to do.

When your lecturer cancels your 8am lecture and they "apologise if this has caused any inconvenience". Sorry, but I'm not sure if I can forgive you for allowing me to sleep in for an extra hour.
