Don't know too much about it myself or how hard it is to get a spot, but it's a competitive-entry mentorship program for students who are enrolled through Access Melbourne (I'm on an Access scholarship) which I applied for just before exams started and so yeah turns out I was accepted.

Congrats dude you deserve this!! Really happy for you!

cheers :3

How hard is it to do well in Chem 2 if you have enormous gaps in your chemistry knowledge? i.e. how much of Chem 2 requires strong knowledge of Chem 1 / VCEChem? I barely passed VCE Chem and Chem 1, and I've heard things about Chem 2's fail rate (out of curiosity, anyone know how high this is?), so I'm wondering if I should just give up on it and all subsequent paths requiring it.

Yeah, Chem 2 has a high fail rate! It is truly a step up from the step up that is Chem 1 (relative to VCE). I didn't do all that flash in Chem 1, but pulled a H1 in Chem 2. What I changed was the amount of practice I did leading up to the exam. I did all the past papers for Chem 2 and made sure that I participated in the tutorials. Plus I put lots of effort into every prac class. In short, I decided to become responsible for my own learning. Good luck if you pursue it!

hey guys not sure if i am allowed to ask this, but i got a lot of time on my hands these holidays (i finished exams early, dont have a job, no friends) so i literalyl spend all day at home on the computer/watching movies/ps3....anyway the idea came to me maybe i could get a head start on next semester. Is there any way possible to find out the required text books for your subjects next semester or access the lms or listen to lectures from last semester?
thanks.

Hey!

You can search up the handbook for the subject on google and then take a look at the recommended textbooks. If there is nothing there you can even email the coordinators on what you need to buy before the semester.

Not sure if you can access the LMS. Maybe you can ask someone who did the subject previously to email you the lecture notes/lecture videos

You can also find recommended texts by searching the coop site if it's been updated. The textbook should be Principles of Macroeconomics, Bernanke, Frank & Olekalns (4th ed). I never actually used the textbook, however I remember the course drawing heavily from it. I'm not sure if some things were skipped etc though. So if you've got some spare time, you could try popping into the library and picking up a copy - there should be some on hand. I don't actually have the stuff from intro macro anymore sorry  :(

I'm applying for a Diploma in Mathematical Sciences, and was wondering what the "prior academic experience" meant when it comes to selection(https://handbook.unimelb.edu.au/view/2015/D-MATHSC)? Do they look at all my university exam scores when determining whether they want to give me a spot...? Or would they only look at Maths and Stats subjects I have completed so far?

Any recommendations for first year science subjects where it's fairly easy to do well? I need to boost my WAM a little.
