this is called an SAS appointment where they ask about your expectations for uni , set goals etc, answer any questions and check how you're doing with the whole transition thing. I'd recommend going only because they are friendly faces and can be really helpful if you start struggling later in the year, so you can turn to them for help (instead of going to the student centre which I find can be a little confronting.)

ahh okay cheers

So is this something everybody does when they start?

Every first year will get a call from them at some point, so yeah.

Has anyone else's transport concession card form been cut off at the bottom when they print? The bit cut off is important (my face) but it's a PDF so editing is a tad difficult. At this point I'm resorting to taking screenshots and editing the pictures so they look like a single document in word. Any help would be swell. Cheers

Mine was fine, you might just need to adjust the print options. You shouldn't have to do alter the document or take screenshots for it to work.

Is there somewhere you have to go to make it so that you can scan your student card and get let into buildings after hours? the msd closes pretty early and opens pretty late and i see heaps of people scanning their card to go in and study but it doesnt work for me (or my environments friends). maybe its just because im commerce and its part of a different faculty?

EDIT: nvm it works for my Benvs friend, its definitely a faculty thing LOL :D

Just to reaffirm, students with a legitimate need to access the MSD after hours (not just as a general study space I believe) can ask Stop 1 to grant them access. Pretty sure you need to be in the architecture or related faculty.

if we don't exactly have a suitable picture for our student card, do you know if they can take pictures if we go into stop 1 / admissions desk etc for the photo. My mate had a similar problem and on his open day Monash peeps were walking around taking pics for you.

I'm not sure but you can call/live chat them!  but just warning you that theyll take it on a webcam! And the printer seems to degrade the quality. So whatever happens, don't expect high res ID photos. Alternatively, you  can take one with your webcam :P there is a feature on the website

Hey guys. Are the orientation workshops like "getting the most out of lectures" worth attending?
It's a bit of a trip to Melbourne uni for me.

if you're at uni that day, then might as well go but if you're travelling to uni just to attend that then i dont think it's worth it.

Oh and also, for the student ID card photo, does it have to be professional looking (lol) or can I just take a somewhat professional looking selfie with a white wall as my background.

Doesn't have to be professional or good looking, as long as it shows your face reasonably clearly. The only people to see it will be examiners.

Can confirm that you can get a photo taken for you at uni. Just need to go to the science student centre at the ERC and they can do it all for you on the spot. Just make sure you have a few bits of ID on you (I can't remember exactly what you need)

All the student centres have been moved to Stop 1, so I would head there instead but otherwise follow the above. They did only shut the ERC one officially a month ago, so I guess it's possible they can still do student cards. I haven't seen how closed it is.
