does anyone know how the personality test in OB separates people into assignment groups? I wanna be in a group with my friend bc i have heard and had really bad experiences in the past with randoms.

do they group people by similiar personality type and should we pick the same answers for every q or would it be better to pick exact opposite answers? lmao why cant they just let us pick :(

We'll be alright.... LOL you meant the other friend didn't you :(

Hey guys,

Do uni subjects get more or less 'scaled' up or down depending on how difficult they are? (in a similar way in which VCE subjects are adjusted to make overall grades fairer)

I'm doing Calc 1 and if it does not get scaled it would definitely bring my average waaay down.

Maybe I should do the African Drumming course to balance it out??

No, they don't. Subjects can be scaled, but it's at the discretion of the subject coordinator (scaled up or down, or to a bell curve.) University isn't like VCE - assessment is done subject to subject (or department to department).

Don't fret about your average/GPA, especially in first year. Do you really want to spend $1000+ on a subject you won't use, or won't enjoy? Plus, you don't want a potential boss/Honours supervisor to call you on taking obvious budge subjects.

Does anyone know if lectopia lectures can be downloaded for offline viewing? I think travel time (1 hour each way for me) could thus be put to good use for certain subjects.
Anyone else have ideas for using travel time productively?

Yes, this can be done (and I highly recommend doing so to prevent being held up if the system goes down).

If you have any studying apps on your phone, travel time is a good time to use them. Examples include Memrise, Anki or Cerego.

When I bought GAMSAT books, the seller told me that I might not have to actually use the books because UoM takes the top students of the University in Biomedicine and grants them a spot in MD. Now is this true? Thank you

If they got 99.90+ yeah. Otherwise everyone is in the same GAMSAT boat. Unless they suddenly changed something...

Maybe they are talking about the 'Guaranteed Entry' to MD in which if you get 99.00+, and you keep up a 6.7+ GPA, you can skip the GAMSAT. The only hitch is that you only get offered a FFP, which is like 200k upfront.

What Orson said or maybe they're getting confused with Monash's Biomedical Science --> MBBS guarantee. You can't secure yourself a CSP into the MD without being a Chancellor's Scholar with a successful interview.

The Monash Guarantee is only for the top 50 students I believe?

Yeah top 50 students for Biomedical Science and its respective double degree options too (you'll find out by second year for single degree or third year for double degree if you're accepted or not) followed by 25 students for other degrees such as Science, Pharmacy etc. http://www.med.monash.edu.au/medicine/admissions/grad-entry/2017-entry.html

I believe so:

GAMSAT is available to any person who has completed a Bachelor degree, or who will be enrolled in their penultimate (second-last) or final year of study for a Bachelor degree, at the time of sitting the test.

And the biomed kids that missed out on the first round get put back into the pool for the second round of 25 offers.

They really love those biomed kids...
