does anyone have any ideas for some good extra-curriculars or volunteering? my resume is very boring right now lol

atm, i'm signing up for leadership and sub-committee positions at all of the comm clubs and societies (mmi, cainz, ass, enactus, fmaa, etc). If i get a spot at fmaa, i'll be over the moon!!
have you had any experience with this yourself?

Hey all,
First year student here. Received an invoice of $290 for student services or something about a week ago. I was wondering if it's 100% compulsory? I dont want to throw $300 without really knowing why...

It is compulsory, but you don't have to pay it now. You can choose to apply for SA-HELP and put in on HECS :)

I got that too. You can put it on SA-Help up until the census date, I believe. After you apply for it, it should exist as an "optional fee".

Student services money goes towards the students union (UMSU) etc.

quick question: how can i find the email of my uni tutors? I want to attend a make up economics class today as i missed mine on monday and have to email the tutor to let him know. looking for the email of Chris Mohan in particular. Any help will be appreciated as my tute is at 3 today lol...

edit: when i type his name into the email search bar, all i get is a student email with the address [email protected]
so i'm assuming this isn't the one, or is it?

Two results, possible they are the same person. Probably would aim for the @unimelb first as tutors should but don't always use their staff address.

is it okay to never go to lectures for a subject (I'll watch them at home of course)? I'm really not enjoying one of my subjects and I want to change it to something else, but the only lectures available for the new subject just clash with heaps of things I already have timetabled

Absolutely. I go to the first lecture to get a visual image of what I will be listening too, and then listen to the rest online. It means I can go at my own pace, rewind, pause, etc. much more convenient and more effective for my learning. However, there are some subjects where you can't do this (for example, I think in first years Linguistics the lecturer solves problems in an overhead projector that isn't recorded) so you need to assess each subject/lecturer individually.

Yes, you can do only one subject if you like. I know this for a fact because I have done it myself.

Thanks friend, going to withdraw from one of my subjects because it's pretty much exactly the same as one i've already done... and the only other commerce subjects that sound interesting are either not offered or semester 2 only :(

so I just changed my subjects and there was a lecture that was on Tuesday and it's still not available to watch...

is it compulsory for all lectures to be recorded, no matter what? I just read in the subject guide that a lot of guest speakers (almost every week has a guest speaker) don't like to be recorded and therefore those lectures aren't captured

Idk if it's an old document or if they just forgot to upload the latest one but I'm worried now since as I said before I can't ever attend these lectures because of clashes with tutes :S
