In terms of the undergrad course only, it will be applications of Eng Maths (in Electrical Device Modelling), and an extension of parts of Eng Maths (like Fourier Series) in Signals and Systems, plus some additional areas.

interesting, can you give me an insight or a brief review on EDM and signals and systems? as there don't appear to be any reviews for those subjects.

Feel sorry for one my lecturers for my breadth subject.
Not going to name which one, but each week she puts up a live poll during the lecturer e.g. Which genre of music suits your personality?
People can submit their answer (anonymously) online or using their phone. Their answers appear on the lecture slide for everyone to see. The most popular answers become enlarged.

Anyway every week, people try and be "funny" by submitting stupid answers e.g. "CUM" "ANAL" etc.

At the start it was funny but now it's just stupid. Please stop doing this. How old are you?

Curious as to how you guys deal with incompetent/annoying group members. Was in a group with two other students and they didn't show up for two weeks only to finally tell me they changed their timetable and aren't in the same tutorial any more. We have a large report and a presentation to do...

Damn, this still happens in Masters??

Surely people would start to take their degrees seriously by now?

And to answer your question, I have simply done the whole assignment by myself in the past.
It's easier to spend 10 hours finishing the whole thing in one go, rather spend an hour everyday for 2 weeks stressing about other group member's parts and then another 5 hours redoing the whole thing.

But I don't think you'll be able to do this in Masters, lol.

I completely agree! Where possible, I try to do as much of the assignment by myself as I know the people I'm working with don't have the same standards that I do. I also always volunteer to submit it. That way I know what the final product looks like.

But I should note, because of the circumstances, I am now able to complete the assignment individually  :)

An absolute pain in the arse no doubt, but you're going to work with idiots all of your life, so treat this is as a really good opportunity to work on solving an issue that will be presented to you a lot during your working life.
For my part, I've always been pretty lucky with group members. If someone isn't pulling their weight, speak to them one on one and raise your concerns. Ask them if anything is going on and what you can do to help them with it. Just a reminder that they're not pulling their weight is sometimes really motivating, especially if it's delivered kindly. If you just have a crack at them, they're not really going to feel committed, or indeed comfortable, contributing to the group.

Does every tutorial at this university end up with the same 3/4 local kids answering every question while the international kids say nothing?

Kind of frustrating at times.

Happens everywhere (in terms of the same people answering), unless the tutor employs a strategy to force people to answer. :)

It sucks. In my intro micro tute, I'm basically the one doing all the talking. Not very fun :P

one reason for this I think is the way international kids are educated. speaking for myself, I studied in Malaysia until I came here to do VCE. Our teachers actually preferred us to be quiet instead of talking in class. There was very little discussion, most of the time it's just teachers spoonfeeding all the information and answers.
For one of my subjects last semester, some international kids actually tried to ask questions and answer what the tutor asked while the local kids were quiet. But yeah it's always the same few people who answer.

ah that sucks.. :(. Quite a few people actually contributed during my micro tute last year.  Hope you're enjoying the subject!

the discussions in my marketing tutes this sem are dominated by international students. they are so fearless with incorrect answers too. one tutor asked us to guess 'which 40 year old tech company founded in california' he was thinking of, and one chinese kid immediately screamed out "UBER"  LMAO

How hard is it to get into quota subjects? I need to do anatomy next year and it says that "Selection into quota subjects is based on academic merit.'' So would you need a high weighted average from first year?
Also it's highly likely that I'm going to fail one of my subjects (forgot to unenrol in time omg) so would this affect my chances of getting in?

I'm really freaking out because my first sem WAM isnt that high and I need to do this subject to apply for med

has anyone else doing IFA noticed how restrictive the assignment ESR is? only one student (in a cohort of probably a few hundred) has access to ESR at a time for each 2 hour block, and there will probably be the same few students taking it so everyone is basically forced to buy unlimited access for $25
so much for "there is no requirement for any student to pay for access if they do not wish to"

[e] and lecture capture is down lol this uni is retarded
