Hi,
I'm enrolled in a quota subject (Introductory Microeconomics) as a breadth (I'm in Bachelor of Science), already registered for classes in it as well. When I looked up quota subjects, it says "Your enrolment in a quota subject is not confirmed until the selection process has been finalised by the subjects Faculty. This selection process will commence after the application deadline, which is listed in the subjects Handbook guide." and the last date to self-enrol is the 10th of March. I was wondering, by this stage, is my place in this subject confirmed by now, or is there a chance I'll be taken out of it?
Thanks! :)
Completed VCE 2016
2015: Biology
2016: Methods | Physics | Chemistry | Specialist Maths | Literature
ATAR : 97.90
2017: BSci (Maths and Engineering) at MelbUni

Hey guys,

So I've dislocated the patella, tore the meniscus in my knee and am unable to walk, let alone commute 40km to uni. I have 2 summer exams next week (Monday and Wednesday). So far, I've got the X-ray and MRI done, got 2 medical certificates that state the condition, and which cover the entirety of next week. I've applied for special consideration, and attached these certificates, but forgot to tell the doctor to fill in the HPR form. I really don't want to go back to emergency and wait 4 hours to get seen just to get a HPR form filled. Is it likely that my special consideration application is accepted if i've only shown medical certificates?

Thanks!

you have to have a HPR done. I've known people who were sick and didnt have a HPR filled and didnt get granted special consideration. or in some cases they might tentatively grant it based on the fact you can provide a HPR later on.
i know spec con in the commerce faculty is actually quite holistically sorted and the girl who does it is very fair. i had a weird tentative one in first year where i they said it was cool i didnt sit the exam but i had to give them a special form from my doctor within 7 days or else i wouldnt be able to sit the resit either and i would just get the late withdrawal (or a 48 which im obviously not gonna take)

but i digress.
you can get the HPR done by your GP. it doesnt have to be by the hospital. i hope your gp/any gp close to you doesnt have a 4 hour wait LOL I know its probs a pain to walk or move but just going to any local gp and getting them to fill it out will hit the nail on the head and basically guarantee special consideration.

good luck and hope you get a speedy recovery !

thanks so much for the reply spectroscopy! I'll try to get the HPR by the GP tomorrow. Also, if I'm feeling better by then, would you suggest going to the exam in crutches, doing it anyway and then applying for special consideration?

Hi does anyone know whether the second year Biomedicine core subjects (Molecular and cellular biomedicine & Human structure and function) cover the MD prerequisites of physiology, anatomy and biochemistry?

yeah if you physically can do the exam you should always do it even if you know youll get special consideration. you might get lucky and end up smashing the exam anyway and not taking the special consideration anyway. i know it happened to someone here last year who got special consideration but he/she said they annihilated they exam anyway and didnt take the special consideration. so if you can do it, do it. but if you cant then dont worry too much

Doing Bcom this year. Is there any benefit to doing Calc 1, Calc 2 and Linear Algebra over QM1 and IE (or doing both)? I'm looking at majoring in finance and I enjoy maths but I didn't do specialist in VCE so the accelerated course is not an option.

Another factor I'm considering is that doing Calc 1,2 and linear algebra would take up all level 1 breadth slots.

In my opinion, there's  not much point to overloading maths unless you're really good at it and can score well. I did the accelerated maths stream in first year, but my current course plan includes no maths electives at all after changing majors from Actuary to Eco/Finance. I'm now more interested in exploring more breadth options instead, but I guess it's up to you if you want to go down that path.

It took a while, but now that I've read through all of the level 3 and level 2 commerce electives and their prereqs I don't think I need the extra maths.

It would be nice if unimelb made a big flowchart to accompany the handbook.

Hey guys, do you think I'll be able to get special consideration with this? Also, anyone know what special consideration outcomes are available during the summer sem?

I did a commerce summer sem exam this morning but was really unwell for it — I threw up before sitting the exam but went anyway because I was worried I wouldn't have special consideration approved. Told the invigilators I was feeling super unwell and they (sympathetically) told me to try and push through if possible. I went to the bathroom and threw up again during the exam but still managed to finish the paper (studied hard for this one), albeit with many mistakes I'm sure and definitely not to the best of my ability.

No idea what I'm down with, can't seem to hold down anything :( I have a doc appointment in a couple of hours and will get an HPR form filled out but am really worried I won't get spec con granted for this and even if I do I'm unsure what relief is available given it's the summer semester. Thanks for your help in advance.

So my special consideration application got accepted and was granted supplementary exam sitting, but I already did my scheduled exam this morning. I only think I did mediocre though, due to several study/tute hours lost due to hospital time, so if I choose to do the supplementary exam will my better grade be counted or just the supplementary exam grade?

should be fine with enough doctors notes backing it up

im fairly sure when you accept the supplementary exam you forfeit your original results and are agreeing to do it again. i think you can wait a few days before you have to take teh supplementary exam dont you? every time ive had special consideration ive been able to wait til my first mark came out and then decide if i wanna do it or not
