That's what my math teacher had. But he didn't spend ages on it so it could be <=

I just had = to, so i'll lose 1 mark.

Yeh I got a greater than or equal to aswell, I'm not 100% sure but I think those are the numbers I got ttn. Did you do it by the subbing in x=root(7)/2 and dt/dx=0?

Also nice post count.

I did >= as I noticed it was larger than the other K value they gave and since K is proportional to the distance, the larger, the slower he will be swimming in the river? so he may as well go straight to it.

Yeh, I also found out what the value of T would be in terms of k, and realising that there was a negative in front of the K, as K increased Time decreased and so he had to take the direct route.

remember k is a positive constant.
Hopefully I get one mark for saying it's more than or equal to zero since it's positive.

Edit: or maybe not...apparently the answer might be something else...

The larger k is, the longer it takes to swim up, so it will be practical to take the direct path if it is greater than or equal to... that.
