Regarding the BBiomedSci Scholar's Program, does anybody know what the requirements are for fast-tracking this degree?

If it's anything like science scholars, to fast track it you just need to have fulfilled all the requirements and you can finish your degree. You may need to accelerate some units, though.

Alright, thanks for that. What are the requirements though - and I take it that 'fast-tracking' implies 2 years?

Whatever the requirements on the handbook are - they don't change just because you want to fast track. The only reason you can fast track the degree is because you don't have to complete 24 units, just the core stuff.

And fast track just means less than 3 years, not necessarily 2.

The capability to 'fast-track' in this degree is due to the permission/ability to overload (do more than the normal 8 units per year) in your first year at uni. Normally, all the other biomed degrees are not allow to do this, they can only overload in second year and given they have at least a Credit average (60%+) in the previous year.

As EulerFan mentioned, you still have to fulfill all the requirements of the degree (24 units including core and elective units), you are just doing more in a shorter time period - not necessarily skipping out on any units/content/many-hours-of-studying  :P

Thanks a lot! That clears things up. Seeing as electives are still required, would it be possible to credit my uni extension chemistry and in turn, 'skip' a unit?

It's unlikely that I'd commit myself to any sort of overloading, however I'm just curious about this option and more so comparing it to Griffith Uni's BMedSci degree, which is 3 year's worth of content squashed into 2 (!).

You sure can! You actually can gain credit for both units studied in extension chem, so you can either take second year chem subjects or do only 6 units in your first year   :D

A friend of mine is doing that degree/pathway at Griffith, and I 'think' it is only shorter as the whole degree is BMedSci/MD (I am not sure if that is what it is called) and becomes like a 6 year program - should probably google this to verify, my brain is on holiday mode right now...  8)

Just out of curiosity, is Jonathan still taking MUEP chem this year?

One of my friends got into this BMedSci/MD pathway and then cheekily sat the GAMSAT and got into UoM MD to be closer to home. Just to point out that this is indeed a /thing/.

Sweet! Yeah I've looked at the semester schedules for the BMedSci (provisional entry MD) and it is pretty full on - 5 units per semester and a few units during the summer break to sweeten the deal LOL

And yeah, Maclellan is still taking classes :P

Oh wow haha. I was reading somewhere (most likely MSO) that UoM, Monash etc. don't recognise the 2 year BMedSci as a valid undergrad to be eligible for their post grad med? Must be something new then huh.

Yeh mun - I used it today. I think they're only every 12 minutes, though - not every 4.
