If the JMSS kids in the Law Lib could shut up, that'd be great. You can even hear them from other floors discussing their SACs and whatnot. Wish I didn't forget my headphones when I was there earlier :'(
OH NO, NOT THE LAW LIBRARY TOO!
They need a bouncer at the door.

Hey guys,

Is there such thing as a double degree in Biomed and Arts @ Monash? I think (?) I remember reading about the course on their website but I can't find the link to it now

Unfortunately there isn't, which is a shame because I think that'd be a great degree combination. At this time the only biomed double degrees available are with commerce, law or science. In the past there was one with engineering but I think they've scrapped it as of this year.

I have a friend doing biomed/eng this year, so it's definitely run this year. Not sure if they might be scrapping it for next year, though based on this, I think it will still run.

For Blondie, you COULD do arts/science, and then major in a bunch of bio units in the science part. Not the same thing as biomed, but I'm sure you could find something that science offers that is similar enough to biomed to satisfy you? Just an alternative idea, not sure how similar science units are to biomed units.

Curiously, why this combination? There might be some degree combination that could help you if we knew the specifics (also because I'm really curious to see why you want to do both, so I'ma just be nosy :P)

I actually suggested to the library that during the lead up to exams they only permit people into the library if they have a Monash student ID (like they do at Caulfield library). It's actually ridiculous the amount of times last semester I couldn't find a seat because ~20% of people in the library are JMSS students... and they're not even paying for those facilities like we are!

Fair points, biomed/eng isn't listed in the list of available courses that Brenden posted so either it's an oversight on someone's part or the website hasn't been updated as yet!

If you (OP) do arts/science and you want to do something similar to biomed (to whatever extent you can), I'd recommend majoring in DEV (developmental biology), BCH (biochemistry), GEN (genetics), IMM (immunology), MIC (microbiology) or PHY (physiology), or a combination of any two/three of those (depending on which you choose). All of these things are taught in a specific course structure in biomed, so it's basically impossible to fully replicate that in a BSc but it gives you the opportunity to focus more on a specific area that interests you. The BBiomedSc doesn't have majors, which is a bit of a downside to the course imo.

Keep in mind that doing a BBiomedSc single degree gives you one elective slot per semester, so there's no reason you couldn't do one ATS unit per semester if that's what you're interested in - you just won't get another degree out of it.

figured this was the best place to ask,
If I submit an application to transfer courses within monash, get accepted and then decide that I don't want to do the transfer course anymore, am I able to reject the offer?

Yes. You don't have to accept the offer.

For more information (and tears), contact the faculty that made you the offer

Haha to satisfy your curiosity, I want to study Biomedical Science @ Monash howeverrrrrr I still want to study Literature :p... nothing too special lool

This is probably what I will end up doing. I will ask about electives @ the Open Day tomorrow.

Thanks for the help everyone! :-)

Hahah, I had a friend who had this issue earlier (wanting to do x, but also wanting to do lit), and my suggestion was to do the double degree with arts... :P So yeah, you're probably better following alon's advice and using free units for lit.

Always the option to do a separate Dip. Lib Arts (http://www.monash.edu.au/pubs/handbooks/courses/2327.html) with a major in literary studies!

Pros: You get to fulfil your literature needs; Cons: $$$ (as with anything university-related).
