Ooh, good point. That said though, isn't it a bit late to transfer in like your third year?

It's atypical, but there's no reason why you can't do it if you want to. Though you will likely be one of the oldest in the cohort - though that could be beneficial for a law degree (probably any degree).

Just everything.

I've tried both actually, can't figure out what it is. It might just be my computer..hopefully it'll be up by the morning.

So you're trying to log in to moodle but it keeps on rejecting you even though nothing with your computer has changed? Try contacting monash connect, could be a problem with your account on their side. I know a fair few people lost access because they didn't pay or defer their SSAF a few weeks ago, perhaps there is something going on like that?

As i warned you earlier in the thread, many people fail MTH1010. This is because they either failed methods the first time around (like me) or haven't taken any math of this nature since year 10. It has far less support compared to a conventional high-school math class too. To be brutally honest, not attending your tutorials probably did not do you any favours at all.

Now, if you can't hack the math in MTH1010, i find it unlikely you would be able to manage the math in many (but not all) commerce majors. You may be able to do things like "Business", "Business Law, "Accounting" (only basic arithmetic to my knowledge) without a heavy mathematical burden. You do want to withdraw before it goes on your record because (a) it means you don't pay for it and (b) it doesn't look as bad as a fail and it doesn't look as bad as a withdraw.

Every single student of the university is technically eligible to go on exchange so that's not an issue.

Check if law accepts mid-year transfers, if not, you will have to wait for the end of the year. Law needs ~75/80 WAM to be safe. If you do it mid-year (which im not sure they allow), they will also consider your ATAR. If you fail to get in you can try at the end of the year. If you do not make it by then or by definitely the end of your second year, i would just give up on the LLB and aim for the Juris Doctor after you finish.

Missed this response! Thanks to everyone else who responded.

I do really enjoy my degree but for one lecture a week and one workshop a fortnight it isn't really worth doing it when I can do everything else with an arts degree and enjoy more flexibility with the double degree. Currently I'm doing four subjects and three (all except maths) I am sure I will do very well in.

On my monash it says this '31 Mar   Last day to discontinue full-year units without 'withdrawn' showing on academic record' so I'm assuming if I withdraw now, it will be as though I never did the unit?

Do I need a certain amount of units completed (with the 80 WAM) to transfer into law/arts? I'm confident that in 3 of my units I'd be able to score highly but I'm not really sure if that would be enough units. Someone said earlier that I had to get a certain amount of credits which I don't think I'll receive unless I do 4 units this semester which is pretty much the only reason I'm still doing maths. ATM I could care less about doing commerce cause I know I'm terrible at maths and law/arts is what I'm geared for.

Good news about the exchange. I always knew you could do exchange in any degree but it was compulsory for my degree so I found that as somewhat exciting for some reason.

Is there a careers councillor or something at uni that I can talk to about this? At the moment I am riding off of ATARnotes people with what I'm doing and I'm much less savvy than you lot :P

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!! TRULY APPRECIATE IT!

The big modern office (which is incredibly busy around lunchtime), opposite Monash Connect.
http://www.monash.edu.au/students/career-connect/

It's not really savviness, all the information is available on the monash website, you just need to know where to find it.

Thanks. Sorry I knew I could check I just didn't know how many units it was off the top of my head.

That is terrible news. I am only allowed to do 4 units in the second semester and 3 units in the first semester which will leave me 6 credit points short of 48. Is there anything I can do or will that mean I am basically stuck with this degree as I'll be dropping my MTH1010 unit?

You could beg a subject coordinator to be allowed in this late (probably unlikely though).
Do a winter/summer unit.
Do 3 this semester, then full time, transfer in third year.
Maybe do a unit on Open Universities Australia if it can be credited by Monash.
Try and do a single unit at another uni (you pay for it), next semester (whilst full time at Monash), if it can be credited by monash. (I can't guarantee this is possible).
Probably other options which I don't know of.
*Don't follow my advice without double checking it first or you may stuff up your degree*. But really, your issue isn't such a big deal, not something which hasn't happened before to someone.

You should speak to someone at uni about it, because they can give actual reputable advice.

Cheers man. Ahh, this really sucks! As you wrote that message I was pretty much pleading to a unit coordinator to allow me into their unit explaining the situation haha. The winter unit sounds pretty cool completing the unit in one week but literally none of the units sound interesting to me ahhhhh, except for an Arts Internship but for some reason I doubt I could do that in my first year.

If I wasn't able to transfer after one year that'd be the end of that for me. I'm not sure how it isn't a big deal though! I love my degree but I have realised it won't really be relevant to what I do whilst a law degree coupled with an arts degree would be a lot more suitable towards what I want. I f'd up big time!

Or just toughen through MTH1010. If you think that law is going to be breezy, or that you're never going to fall behind again at uni, I've news for you.

Sit down with a textbook, solve some problems, rewatch lectures (if they're recorded). Ask questions on this board. Hell, come on IRC and there'll be people happy to help.

:)

The unit coordinator came through. She agreed that I can do the unit if I sit the first test tomorrow and allocate myself into any available tutorial time left. WOOOOOO.

I like law. I never thought I would have studied it but since I was a kid I would read books on it out of pure interest. I have relatives who have studied law and while it sounds hard, I do believe I can do it. I think Maths just isn't my forte. The main reason I wanted to do Maths is so I can learn the maths in finance but when I'm drawing arrows on graphs and writing greek letters, that is a sign that I have to get out.

Hey guys anyone know how long the 2015 Careers Festival runs for? I'm not at uni today and was hoping it was on tomorrow too (really interested in the information they've got on offer).

It's only today, but the science part runs from 2:30-onwards, so you can still make it. (unless you wanted people from the first session)

You can go straight to the employers website, but nothing at the careers festival will be offered by Monash (or at least, CLV haven't mentioned it to the societies that advertised the event)

I wouldn't, JDs are bloody expensive for what they are (a glorified version of the LLB for those who want to sound fancier)

80 WAM probably gets you a CSP place (same price as the LLB)
2010 - 2013: Bachelor of Software Engineering - Monash (completed w/ alternative exit to B. Comp Sci)
2014 - 2016: Master of Laws (Juris Doctor) - Monash

Just had my first real live anna.xo sighting. She saved my life. I was about to fall asleep in a poorly ventilated, dimly lit, empty lecture theatre when the door swung open and a figure clad in red asked if the room was free. Took a full minute to make the connection but I got there.
