They've put up these giant temporary walls on the matheson ground floor and it looks so weird.
And according to a librarian, renos won't be finished until 2016. So painful.
So what will be new when it's done?

Hows everyone going? Week 6 already, damn, time flies!

I've got to go to an "informal information session" for honours tomorrow. It's held in the lobby of some building. Sounds like one of those awkward mixers everyone has to go to but no one really want to be there. Guess i'll just have to suck it up and go.

So what will be new when it's done?

I think they're redoing the outside and the floors they're currently working on. To be fair, Matheson is obviously really super dated. They're slowly fixing up all the oldest buildings on campus. The menzies used to not be like it is, it used to be way more old and shit on the inside too.

Theres a lot of information and pictures of their future plans here - https://www.monash.edu/library/refurbishments/

Pfft that's nothing. When Menzies was being renovated, the stairs were outside the building.

Omg I checked out the Matheson today, and I can't believe it ! It looks awful.. super cramped and so much smaller. Missing my study space.. and every other library on campus is so packed that there's nowhere to study :(

I have no idea if they're against the rules or not, but I don't care. Trawling the menzies for empty tute rooms, or setting up shop in an empty lecture theatre in the rotunda has served me well for completing assignments in silence these past two years. You have to relocate every hour or so, but that's life hey

So, had my honours information session today. Turns out there was this person who was a year in-front (as in completed pharm last year) like me! But i forgot to get their name, damn. It seems like everyone knew everyone else from this years cohort.

They removed the single neuro project in the booklet which makes me sad. They did replace it with 3 at the Victorian institute of forensic medicine but it's all paper based.

Yeah but it has no escalators now :(.

That's actually a pretty smart idea. I doubt anyone would even look in these rooms. The worst that will probably happen is they'll ask you to leave. How do you find out if the room is available though, has it been trial and error so far or like showing up 20 minutes past the hour?

The matheson shutdown sucks but it's not that bad. There are plenty of places to study on campus if you get creative. They're getting really big on this whole informal study space thing. A lot of couches and desks all the way up the menzies, the various lounges, wholefoods.

If you look in the IT directory, there are waay more computer labs than you even imagined. There are probably like 20 (no exaggeration) just inside the menzies building. If there's no class, they're often dead empty. This doesn't even count all the other stand alone ones scattered around campus.

Rotunda has served me very well as well. Love it for practicing presentations :)

I actually thought about tute rooms yesterday and I went hunting in Menzies, do not recommend. Took me hours of walking around only to find not one empty room.

I really don't like the idea of informal study spaces. I get so distracted so easily, so informal spaces don't cut it for me. I need something more structured, like a library or tute room or something. Thanks for the tips guys !

Anyone know if we can use the library that's on, like, level 9 or 10 or something in the menzies? It seems like it's just another library but I can't help but get a "only use this if you actually really need literature on Australian indigeneity" vibe from it.

How do you find out if the room is available though, has it been trial and error so far or like showing up 20 minutes past the hour?
Yeah, trial and error. It's usually the second or third room I check out? North wing menzies level 3 for life <333

thank god for the little peepholes on the doors.

Yeah, S806, The Elizabeth Eggleston collection. I checked today out of interest because it has computers, but it requires a swipe card. To keep the rabble out, I presume.

There should be plenty of rooms in Menzies....half the building are tute rooms. 2nd floor West wing, 3rd floor east and west wing should be fine. Security guard comes around at about 8pm to check the room, cant remember if he kicks you out or not. Similarly, ground level Law has tute rooms when you walk in and turn right towards the toilets, security guard doesnt give a shit. soz pi told er1 where your secret study dungeon is.

Speaking of dungeons, the only toilets that serve females if you're in the first 2 floors of matho are in the basement. Essentially they've boarded up the basement and only the entrance that used to be for staff is open on the left. Turns out they had a full set of toilets down there. Legit going in there is like going into a rape dungeon.
