Hey guys!
I have a question about the Application SAC that has like 4 parts to it.. For part 2 and 3 (we do them on two separate days), we can have CAS but no notes.. would you benefit more from spending some time to type up the questions onto your CAS or would just not bother?

Thanks!

These are my opinions - I'd say it depends on your level of morality.

Fact: You can allowed your CAS calculator.

Fact: You could type the whole entire SAC onto your CAS during one session.

Fact: You could even put all of the questions up on the internet or show them to friends, letting others complete them for you.

But that does not mean you should.

Personally, I don't think I could bring myself to copy out the questions of a SAC and spend as much time as I like on them - it would undermine all of the genuine effort I had put into a subject over the year. It wouldn't be worth it - If I aced the SAC, was it really my success? If anything, I would not like to look back on the year and feel my marks were not genuine or that my marks weren't earned how they should be earned. Also, you won't have a chance to do these things during the real exams...

Just my thoughts.

It doesn't sound like that would benefit you at all, if you're doing different parts on different days.

Don't know how your school runs the SAC, but after each part, every student in my class has to reset the calculator in front of the teacher before leaving the room.
But anw, even if you won't need to reset anything, I'd say try to solve them first, check them over and over again and make sure you got the right solution rather than just copy on your CAS (unless you are really stuck on a particular question)

Yeah.. I do agree with you somewhat. however, the teachers talked to us about it and it sounded as though they encouraged us to type up questions onto our cas so that we could discuss with other students.. it's a bit strange imo

Mm.. that sounds a lot smarter.. we can have cas (uncleared for all parts), but no notes. my methods friends wanted to split up the questions so that each person would type up at least one question on the first day then overnight we'd discuss/share the questions we typed up.. so even then, would you still avoid typing up questions?

why is this a negative cubic graph, i thought just the x^3 has to be negative?

I'm pretty sure this is because the graph is reflected across the x-axis.

Your school could be doing the SAC differently to mine however.
When we did our multi part SAC, we only had a single session for each part, so at the end of the lesson it was taken away and that was it, no more work.
If you actually are allowed the same SAC part over multiple days that is quite odd.

My school actually allows us to get the previous work that we have done on the next day. But I have seen a lot of my friends complaining that they run out of time so Yes, try to avoid copying down questions. Besides, when you spend time copying those questions, you also lose time for other parts. Even if you manage to get them solve over night, you might run out of time on the next day writing down + copying new questions on CAS => eventually, on the last part, you might not be able to finish. (these are just my assumptions though). But anw, good luck on your SAC!

Personally I wouldn't spend time typing up the questions onto my CAS because like achre said, if it's different parts on different days so no real benefit... at our school we have the same thing except it's 3 parts and the 'parts' relate to a story where all the questions are totally different from each other so yeah...
However what I would do beforehand would be to have some sort of guide on how to use your CAS properly (so any nifty tricks you could use that you might forget in the real exam because for me it has come in handy before) :)

Q13 - answer is B) just a quick question, if the equation is (x-3)(x+3)^3 the x int are (3, -3)but if we look at the (x+3)^3 part, it is positive x^3 and the point of inflection is (-3,0), but why is it in this graph – attached – the point of inflection graph negative – instead of starting left to right, its gone right to left – Hopefully that made sense.

I'll finish it next Monday with the last part. I won't call it strategy since there's nothing special about it but anw, in the long run, you really want to learn the concept behind it rather than just know specific answer to specific questions.Hope that helps!
