Bazza16, no that's not what I meant

Usually in Spesh you can lose 5 marks and get a 46, well you could in previous years

I expected to lose 5 marks but I would have lost more than that, thus why it's marked harshly

Since when was spesh marked so harshly?!?!?!?!!!!!!! =.="

*RAGE*

how do you know spesh was marked so hardly? If the exam's marked hardly it  implies that it's a consistent hardness, which should NOT affect how difficult it is to get a certain score. Shouldn't it just mean a lower score is required for x study score?

E.g.
In 2 years the cohort of 4 same students who did the exact same exam and wrote the exact same things are marked differently
Year 1: Student 1: 100% Student 2: 100% Student 3: 90% Student 4:80%
Year 2: Student 1: 50% Student 2: 50% Student 3: 40 % Student 4: 30%

Study scores year 1
Student 1: 50, 2: 50 3: 23 4: 10
Year 2
Student 1: 50, student 2: 50, student 3: 23, student 4: 10

I think you have to wait until you see A+ cut offs etc. before you make any judgement
This year compared to VCAA standard the exams were easier, as a result to get the spread of data that they are looking for, they mark tougher. It happened for mid year chem aswell, my sister is a teacher and knew someone who was marking it and they were told to mark that chem paper as hard as possible.

EDIT: Paul relax mate, you've done really well, don't fuss about it.

Furthermore, I thought methods was marked easier! I swear I lost 8-10 marks, and somehow got a 46!

Luckily the scaling was awesome :)

Your SACs must have been moderated to go up heaps or you didn't lose 8-10 marks for methods because I lost 8-9 marks, with rank 1 in average cohort and I got 45.

b^3, nah I'm not fussed at my SS, I calculated it and it would have made really little difference even if I got a 50 :P a really small increase in ATAR

but it's just really harsh :P and yes I agree, the chem midyear was really harsh! :S but I do agree it was comparatively easy

I was slightly blinded and shocked when I saw my ATAR, wasn't expecting that high. The effects still haven't worn off. We'll see if I can get it right a third time :P

Are you not doing science along with Aerospace Engineering at monash?

A slight offtopicness sorry guys.

Good Job on your spesh scores guys :).

Hmm, what were you intending to major in for the science b^3?

Spesh would have destroyed those kids who didn't do it and were looking for 99+ or 99.9.
a 38 went to a 49.5 or something.
The spesh exams were way to easy, so they effectively made it a mark lost= 1 less study score, plus as others said they would have gone anal-retentive and marked like pricks. I'm pretty sure the A+ cut off for exam 1 was 40.
I guess the scaling of spesh saved those who got lower scores than expected. what was a 45 last yr was like a 39 this yr.

I think most people would agree on this -- must have been marked REALLY harshly. But the scaling probably balances that out a bit...
I won the GAT: 49/50/50.
