I read on the melbourne university website that this offer will be valid from 2012 to 2014 if the student receives an atar of 99.90 and 99.95.
Will this offer most likely be valid for 2015 aswell? I am planning on getting into medicine and if i got this scholarship what would it include?
No required GPA?
No Gamsat?
No interview required after completion of undergraduate, prior graduate degree?
Full fee scholarship?

Are you graduating school in 2015? Pretty sure if you're entering university in-between 2012 to 2014 with an ATAR of 99.90+ you will get it

EDIT:

The policy will apply to students who complete Year 12 between 2011 and 2013

When they say 2012-2014, I believe that means for class of 2011 students (ie. valid for 3 years then expires...)

EDIT: Actually, probably it's valid for kids entering uni next year, in 2013 and in 2014. It might mean they'll review the system for kids entering uni in 2015, ie. 2014 VCE graduates.

You still need to do the interview though.

Yeah I believe under the new scheme, you can choose to do the interview before your undergrad or during the final year of it.

"You can sit the MMI before you commence at university or during the final year of your undergraduate study.  Both options are treated equally by the MD selection committee." -Email from UoM

But on topic: They probably don't want to say that the program will run too far into the future in case a review shows that it is flawed in some area and should thus be discontinued. But I'd say if all runs smoothly, they'll renew it for later years.

If you get 99.90/99.90:

There is no GPA requirement and you do not need to sit the GAMSAT to get into any post grad course with a guaranteed HECs place.
You get an offer for the National Scholarship which means you are HECs exempt for ugrad with a $5000 annual allowance. (edit: sorry I reread your post...you are not offered a guaranteed postgrad scholarship for getting 99.90/99.95 as far as I'm aware)

For med:
According to the email there is no advantage to having such an ATAR with regards to the interview...people dispute this though ;)
You are informed of your guaranteed grad spot before the change of preference (so this year, Wednesday the 21st) which is pretty awesome.
I believe you can resit the interview if you "fail" before beginning your ugrad course...though that would be pretty alarming.

(hope the info is right)

I'm still unsure exactly what happens if you get 99.90 or 99.95 at melbourne Uni

Generally (for most subs excluding med)
- Do you get guaranteed post grad place regardless of grades achieved in subjects and GAMSAT etc.?
- Do you get a scholarship place or simply a guaranteed HECS place

For medicine in particular (above two questions apply, but with):
- If you still have to sit the interview, what advantage is there in getting 99.90 / 99.95, is it easier to get in?
- Are you immediately informed of secured post grad spot (before undergrad)?
- Can you resit the interview (i.e. before and straight after undergrad?)

Thankyou

What do you mean by scholarship and HECS place? Do you mean CSP? If you get 99.90+, you are guaranteed a CSP place. The only 'scholarhip' places I am aware of is the MRBS, which is a scholarship but you are also bonded (meaning you have to work in a rural location for 6 years after you graduate, so not many people would want this anyway).

I believe under the new scheme, GPA does not matter (which seems a bit weird because what if you failed like half your subjects?) So I'm not too sure on this either. And yes, you do NOT need to sit GAMSAT. Sitting it does not make you more competitive, because you are already guaranteed.

The only catch is you have to pass the interview, but according to my friend who went and asked the director of MD (not sure of his exact title), this interview is just a communication check. That means it's NOT a competitive interview, but rather to make sure you're actually capable of speaking :P

So to answer another of your questions, yes you are pretty literally 'guaranteed' to get in. Not sure about resitting the interview but I highly doubt you are allowed to do that.

The guaranteed score is strictly 99.90 or 99.95, and applies to ANY undergrad degree you choose in melbourne. So you could do commerce or arts and you will still be guaranteed. And so no, if you got 99.85, you will only get the guaranteed full fee place, not the CSP place. To apply for CSP, you will need to take the standard route that everyone else does, with GAMSAT etc.

Yeh what dc302 says is correct, however there are courses which don't have as high a requirement.

http://www.futurestudents.unimelb.edu.au/admissions/entry-requirements/guaranteed-entry/guaranteed_entry_pathways_by_course

There are several courses here which don't require 99.90+ to get the guaranteed CSP spot (e.g vet science)

I've heard two different things on that actually, with 99.85 etc.

Regardless, doing BComm and applying for med would be very hard with the prereqs

I have a few questions which are pretty similar, it would be great if someone could help answer them.

1. If I try for the MD and get an interview after completing the GAMSAT, if I fail the interview am I allowed to take my guaranteed CSP place for the Doctor of Optometry? (98.00+)

2. If I try for the MD but do not get an interview due to low GAMSAT, am I then allowed to apply for a full fee position in the MD? If I fail the interview for the full fee MD, will I still be able to take my guaranteed CSP place for the Doctor of Optometry?

Thanks.

EDIT: Wooo I'm furniture :)

To answer both your questions, you must apply to 3 separate things. You must apply for optometry, you must apply for the CSP MD place, and you must apply directly to melbourne uni for the full fee guaranteed place. You basically choose which one you want to do after you get your offers.

So to put simply: 1. yes. 2. yes.
