I did the GAMSAT UK and used the score to apply. There wasn't much problem just that the ID couldn't be recognised by the Australian system and you have to get them to fix it. They might change the system next year though so there shouldn't be any problems.

Registration for the GAMSAT UK opens around June and i suggest applying for the Melbourne test centre ASAP. This test centre fills up rapidly and registration will close without notice. In my year it closed within a week but thankfully it reopened 2 weeks later and was able to enrol.

Definitely recommend the GAMSAT UK over any other prep courses. I stuffed up my GAMSAT in third year so this also saved my neck :)

Yeah, definitely will use GAMSAT UK as a prep tool :)

And I just suddenly realised how hard uni life will be next year.

Gotta work to save money to even sit the GAMSAT.
Gotta study for uni just to keep up a good GPA.
Gotta study on the side FOR the GAMSAT.
+ find the time to have fun along the way.. :(

So how does one prepare for the GAMSAT? I've heard the writing tasks on the GAT are helpful? Any good text books/ guides?

I know that there are a few companies, like MedEntry, that help with GAMSAT prep so you could sign up with them if you really wanted.

Other than that, I'm guessing it's all personal study.

For the reading comprehension section, you could brush up on speed-reading as well as read more literature to become more accustomed to the type of passages they would give in the GAMSAT. For the sciences section, you could simply revise your Chem, Bio and Physics.

And for the writing tasks, I have no idea what kind of essays they want us to write!

wait... so next year I can sit the GAMSATUK and have that be an elligible score for 2015 entry?

Nah nah, I'm pretty sure you need to be in your penultimate year to sit the GAMSAT (regardless of whether you take the GAMSAT or the GAMSAT UK).

Technically yes but, your 'penultimate' year or 'ultimate' year is not so set in stone. For instance, you might even think next year is your ultimate year when you end up failing all your subjects and have to stay back a year. For me, my first year would be my penultimate year--how would they stop me from doing it in first year?

Just out of curiosity, how come your BSci is only two years long? I'd love to have to only do two years of Science!

Lost track of how many times I've been asked that now :P

I credited my uni japanese and then overloaded a lot, as well as did summer subjects and hence I finished in 2 years. It was a bit of a squeeze though.

Yes Russ you can answer as often as you like :P

Either way it is a win. You get a good score and don't have to do it again,

I'd still do it again, perhaps the March of your final year. You can always improve and there's also the risk you won't make it into the MD on your first attempt - then a more recent score means you don't have to resit it the next year for less stress

Yeah, I have thought about it and am probably going to do it again.  My score is 'probably' good enough, but the Melbourne weighting brings it down a bit and I'd rather not risk it. I think it will be either March or September next year.   Might as well get the best score I possibly can.  I really like the September one because it is so low key.

No idea how I am going to prepare tbh.  Guess I just have to write some more prac essays, not forget all the science crap and somehow improve in section 1.  All in all though, I'm happy to be in my position atm...

And if I don't get into MD in 2014, then I honestly have no more time to waste and would just go and do MBBS at Monash...but I really want MD so i'll get the best score possible.

Gippsland unfortunately.   I've heard a rumour that they may be moving it to Mornington, which would be much better.

When selecting units, would I need to make sure they cover content in the GAMSAT?
