It changed for 2012, it's 255 CSP places and 80 full fee domestic and international places.

Keep in mind that the 255 CSP places are made up of; 8 bonded scholarship, 64 bonded non-scholarship, and 30 extended rural cohort places. The other 153 are normal CSP places.

It will change year to year as the federal government regulates their place numbers.

As to how likely you are to get in, that depends on you, not your course or your colleagues. The requirements for Melbourne are quite high, so it's down to you to do your best. You don't have to get H1s in every subject but you need to collect a fair few of them to partner a reasonably high GAMSAT score, so it's all on you.

How do the places within CSP apply to those with the guarantee? Will they consider GPA/something else with regards to bonded places or are they automatically given an unbonded place? I suppose this was the one thing that wasn't clear in the conditions of the guarantee (which I think is a bit dodgy...not that I'm complaining/ungrateful though)

If you have 99.90+ then you are guaranteed a non-bonded CSP place (and I'm pretty sure you will not get ERC either as long as you don't make it your first preference). GPA is not looked at anymore as far as I know. Keep in mind you still have to 'pass' the interview, which isn't something you should worry about at all.

the fancy 99.9 scholars have already sat and passed the interview. and yes, they could technically screw you over and give you a BMP but I would be very surprised if they did that

With the Chancellor's scholars guarantee, assuming all students with a first round offer to biomedecine chancellors wants to go into MD (pretty safe assumption as there are also those in science who might want MD as well...) 33 CSP places have already been taken up.

This leaves;

8 CSP MRBS
64 CSP BMP
30 CSP ERC
120 CSP (non-bonded)

Essentially, 222 CSP spots instead of 255.

MD is gonna be reaaaaaly competitive come my year to apply :S

You can also knock out the 8 MRBS unless you're crazy and/or already living rurally

Where are you getting 33 from? They made 42 Chancellor's Scholars offers for biomed and 19 for science. Assuming that most of the biomed kids go into the MD that's (say) 35. Of the science kids, I suspect a large amount are planning on it as well (say 5). Those are, I suspect, underestimates but I certainly agree that the cutoffs are going to skyrocket.

Criticism of the chancellor's scholars program is valid, since it's a prestige thing :(

Not all of us! I haven't, for instance. We had a choice between doing it last month or else at the end of our degree =)

They made 42 offers but not all of these were accepted (ie. some went to MBBS) The 33 was taken from counting the number of offers on the Herald Sun page
